It's difficult not to think about "isolating" Ellie...I keep telling myself that I can prevent her acquisition of pseudomonas if I'm careful enough. From what people have been telling me it seems that it would be impossible to prevent infection! So frustrating. I'm afraid of the day that she does get pseudomonas because I have infection linked to rapid deterioration in health.</end quote></div>
My two cents... don't bother isolating her, it'll only piss her off when she gets old enough to know what it means and make her own decisions. Had my parents treated me differently, I would've HATED them. I was allowed to go to parties, swim in pools, play in the dirt, etc. All that junk. I'm glad for it.
As for the pseudomonas, it is IMPOSSIBLE to avoid it forever. Period. It's frickin everywhere. No point isolating her. Honestly, in your house, it's probably most common in the bathroom. And chances are, she spends time in your bathroom. So there's no point locking her in the house. Might as well let her have fun.
Finally... I started culturing pseudomonas 8 years ago. I am 24 years old, and my last PFTs had an FEV1 of 86%. That's even down for me. The clinic visit before last, my FEV1 was 103% (the current drop is due primarily to my sinuses it seems). Anyways. Pseudomonas for 8 years (and that's every culture -- AND I culture 4 different strains at all times), and I'm still baseline lung function in the 90s and 100s.
