Hi - I haven't been on here in a while so forgive me if this question has already been asked. I also posted this question in the adult forum. How many of you have been denied coverage of the vest? Have you bought it from the company (advanced respiratory services) on your own? Have you gone with the lifetime warranty or the 5 year warranty? There is a considerable price difference (9K vs 12K vs 16K). Have you done any fundraising to help cover the cost of the vest or any other costs directly related top CF care. We make to much $$ to qualify for assistance (mass health) but we aren't rolling in the dough over here either.

The VEST company told me that if after 5 years if the vest breaks we are out of luck - that there are no companies that can repair these devices. Also, they couldn't tell me how many hours of use we can expect from one machine. The VEST itself (the black vest) is 540.00 if we need to purchase a new one after the 5 year warranty and the hoses are 17.00 each.

THANK YOU!!!

I was denied coverage multiple times. Talk to your doctors about it, it is pretty common in their opinion. They appealed the decision to BCBS about getting the Hill-Rom (the one I use). After about a year, not joking at all, they finally approved it after paperwork and some phone conversations (aka arguments) were done. Since I was going to college, not having a functioning Vest would make it so I couldn't go at all. This was a major part of our case. Do your children have a Vest now? If not you can appeal saying that you work or are busy and that this will allow for better airway clearence and will cut down on future hospital stays. On the other hand if you have a Vest you can say its malfunctioning or old (as mine was) and with a better Vest the same thing will happen. Either wa you can appeal to their morality and money. Talk to your doctors about it, they will probably have an even better idea of what to do.

i have the incourage through respirtech and remember that you will go thru several vest sizes for a child. my daughter is 2 and is on her second vest. i dont know if the other companies are different, but with ours, as she grows she will continue to need different vest sizes. (so that will be an added expense)
