Diabetic-like symptoms

If you are drinking loads of water i doubt your cracking lips and knuckles are anything much to do with dehydration. Are you taking a good B vitamin complex and fish oils? Lack of B's can cause lip cracking and fish oil is good for dry skin complaints. Maybe give them both a try for a while and see if these symptoms improve? I have had no dry scalp problems or excema on my back since i started taking fish oils about 4 months ago and have never had cracking chapped lips, but then i have always taken B vitamins as antibiotics deplete these vitamins from our blood.

I have been a "borderline" diabetic for years. The only time that I get shaky is about 2.5 hours after breakfast. At that time, my bloodsugar is low, under 70. Sometimes, it can even get to the high 50's. I'll get shaky, clammy, confused, and "out of it".

When my sugar is high, I am unable to concentrate on anything and hyper. The only time I'm high is when I have pasta or pizza really. My last A1C was 5.7 - normal but on the high side. 6.0 is considered mild diabetic. I FAILED my 2-hour glucose test this past February. Like I said, I am "borderline". I don't take anything since I am still able to control it with diet alone.

You might be "borderline" like me. Exercise and diet should help you keep it in check. Since your tests are coming back okay, I don't think you have much to worry about. Pay closer attention to what you are eating or not eating when you feel those sensations. Try to find out what your triggers are. Mine are soda, pizza, pasta, juices, and candy. I can still have them but in moderation. As a matter of fact if I am low before lunch and in a sticky situation, I quick drink a can of regular soda. Then, I eat a meal about 1 hour later. Try and find out what your triggers are. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Yes, I have occasional problems with my blood sugar, especially when I'm on certain medications. I don't have CFRD, but I do have a glucometer and I test at least once a day.

I've come to regard food as fuel. I'm quite deliberate when I plan my meals. I eat practically the same thing every day of the week. When I get taste fatigue, I switch to another group of food faves.

Sometimes CFers have normal results on a spot check of blood sugars, but a more telling HA1c test will show the average blood sugar levels over a 3 month period.

Here's some info about CFRD and blood sugar testing.
