DIAPER RASH / RED BOTTOM

We battle this all of the time. The drs here say it is because of the enzymes. Here is what we have found that works.

First and foremost, get the poop off as fast as you can. Avery would go in the middle of the night and would wake up to a burnt bottome.

Secondly give as much 'naked' time as you can. We cut a large garbage bag and lay it flat under a blanket to protect the floor.

We have used desitin, butt paste, and aquaphor. What works for us is critic aid. I found the suggestion on this website. It sticks to her bottom until we scrub it off - it protects the best. We had our pharmacy order it - it was $14 per bottle. It lasts awhile because you don't have to goop it on, a thin layer works just great.

I would try several things then see what works best for your child.

DS used to get really red bottom also. I would use "BUTT PASTE" but sometimes it didnt seem to clear it up, but I had an RX from when he was in NICU of 4 different ingredients (you can probably get an RX from your pedi)... but I started making my own wipes and that seemed to help (bounty paper towels dampened with water, baby oil, baby lotion and baby soap), and also leaving your baby without diaper for a few minutes a day (some day an hour is best), but I am afraid of pee and poo all over if I leave the diaper off too long! LOL

If you are using the destin, make sure its the purple box, It's a thicker formula, and also helped with my granddaughters rash too.
