Do you clean the spacer for an inhaler?

I have a Pari Vortex, and I just rinse it during the day, and then wash it with dishsoap (I strive for everyday, lol). I think it said to soak it in the dishsoap water for 15 mins, then rinse? It also says it can be washed in the dishwasher, but I don't like the thought of putting it in there where all the food gets washed off the plates...

With the clear top/front on it, you can really see when the med starts to build up on it .

Hi everyone,

Our last clinic visit they did a thorough Q & A of everything that we do with the kids including treatments, vests, sterilizing, and cleaning of all the equipment. I wasn't really cleaning the spacer, and she sort of had this look on her face like "seriously?" I was advised that it needs to be cleaned at least once a week regularly in warm soapy water, shake the excess water off and then let it air dry. She said that the PA germs could be lingering around and could reinfect which defeats the purpose of doing TOBI. As for sterilizing, I'm not sure.

Wow, what a variety of responses!

My take on it is, washing and sanitizing once a week is what should be done. Do we do that? No, but we should :)

I cannot imagine washing it every day though like at least one other person said.
