I eat onions - have eaten them before transplant and continue to eat them now. My thinking ... with all the other crap I have dealt with if God is REALLY sick enough to take me out with an onion we are going to have words when I get to the pearly gates.

Be it cooked or raw I think so long as you are cautious not to eat questionable onions or any other food for that matter you should be fine - but that is NOT a professionals opnion just my own. There can be bacteria harbored in most everything on this planet that we eat or touch - so are we all just going to stop eating in general ... no just be careful.

I wouldn't worry about it---I mean if we worried about every single thing that could hurt us, we would be living in a bubble.

I would bet the majority of CF patients are regular eaters of onions....yet only a small percentage have cepacia (myself included). And of those of us who culture cepacia, the majority of us know how we got it. Some have cultured it after being in the hospital. I got it from my cousin with cf (before we knew it was anything to worry about), etc.

Thanks everyone for the input. I am glad to know others eat onions on a regular basis like me<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I am not going to stop eating them, although how I handle them will change no doubt.

Like Q said to me a while back, you just don't know if the one you use has been sitting next to a rotten one somewhere along the lines.....

I will simply be more careful.
Hope everyone is doing well.
