Do you feel blessed to have CF to a degree?

I know some of you may beat me up because of this but here is my reasoning.
Okay I was born pre-mature at 3 months early, diognosed at in May or so and have been doing all I can to keep myself healthy. As I have grown to currently an almost 17 year old young man, I feel blessed to actually have CF despite the ill effects.
With my CF I have appreciated life more even at a young age, andI have been good friends who suffer from paralysis or have Ceriable Palsey. I am more accepting toward people with disability or illness because I go through some of the same problems as they do. I also am more appreciative of my health and don't want to do drugs or drink, because it could damage my health a lot. Everyday I wake up and am thankful and appreciative of each and everyday.
Now I don't know how you folks feel personally and I don't want to offend anyone but that is my own personality. I don't flaunt having CF or anything, but I realize if I didn't have CF and the way I have been raised,I know my life would be much different.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I sometimes wonder what I would be like as a person had I been born without CF.

I'm able to let the little things go by me (most of the time) and can really appreciate all that I have more than a lot of people do my age (I'm a little out of the teens, though. 21). I can understand how valuable life is and don't want to do anything stupid that would do my body any more harm that is already being done to it.

I can definitely say CF has shaped my life to an extent. However, I think I would have gone in a similar direction CF or not.

I can say having CF has let me reach out to others who also have CF and offer support. I hope one day to be able to say that I made a significant impact on the CF community at large.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but I am fairly certain that I would be a very similar person with or without CF.

Definitely with every condition comes some benefits. For instance, if not for CF I, and most of my family, wouldn't be nearly as involved in the medical world as we are today. My dad went back to school to be a Respiratory Therapist after I was born, and I've gleaned lots of info from my personal medical history to make studying to be a Physical Therapist Assistant just a tad easier. Plus, we're pretty good at dealing with insurance companies and whatnot, which sadly not every family is. So there is some good <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I don't feel at all blessed, although I believe that I wouldn't -really- have preferred to, say, not have CF, but being stupid. Albeit when I look at "stupid" people and I see how easily their lives flow, I feel just so envious. And their healthy bodies, that I envy the most.
I guess it's because CF conditioned me during all my life and left heavy marks on my body...

I also think I would be just a completely different person, if I hadn't had CF: just remember that our DNA would be different... it doesn't mean at all that I'd be an happier or healthier person, but it could also mean so... it's hypothetical, no way to know it.

What I do know very well however, is that if I get cured I will not forget; I will keep all the things I learnd from pain and suffering, and I will try to be a very good person, while finally starting to enjoy life (at least I hope I'll start to enjoy life once and if CF is gone).

Blessed to have CF? No, there is not one percent of me that feels that CF had added to my life in any beneficial way. As I get older and struggle daily my resentment of this disease only gets worse. CF is a curse not a blessing. I often woner why I was the one "blessed" out of four sisters to get CF and I think that may just be gods- will thatI needed to learn compassion. I would def be a very different person if not for this illness. even though I pushed myself to excel in life it stopped me in my tracks when I got to a certain age...I also see people who are healthy and feel anger, jealousy, and rage that my body is broken..at the same time I want to kick myself when I see folks who are way worse then me..ugh! the constant struggle.

I apologize if I have made a some people angry as that was never my intention. Personally I just look at my life and am happy to be living each and every day. Simply put the best of my energy to good use. Granted I have bad days myself, and I get p.o.ed with all the crap (for example I just scored a 87 on my PFT after spending 3 weeks in the hospital when I am usually up in the 90's. I was so angry that my lung function wasn't up after going through 3 weeks of intense I.V. treatments, so I understand the pain, anger, and irritation of having this disease) that we have to go through day in and day out but I suppose it is how you look at it in your life.

I never meant to offend anyone and I truely apologizie. If you wish to lock this thread, that is truly fine by me.

I would say there is a part of me that sees having cf as somewhat good. I'm not sure if I would say blessed, well I guess blessed could work. Having to confront that fact that I might die in the near future has really taught me a lot about life, which I am glad about, it allows me to enjoy each day a little more. It is like how Morrie says in the book Tuesdays with Morrie "once you learn how to die, you learn how to live". There are some days where I have nothing but hate for cf. but overall I do think it has helped me become a better person, and learn somethings that I don't think I could know, or understand without having cf.
