Doc ordered CF test for my son, scared...

My 4 year old son has had recurring bouts of abdominal pain, vomiting, and intermittent fever for the past year.  He always has a positive rapid strep test so he's treated with antibiotics and it just keeps coming back.  He also has very pale stools when this is happening so I had to get a second opinion on the strep thing.  He never has a sore throat with strep, just the abdominal pain and vomiting so it doesn't seem right.  I took him to an infectious disease specialist yesterday.  After reviewing his chart the ID doc seemed more focused on his other issues, like recurrent asthma, sinus infections, bronchiolitis, croup.  The first thing she mentioned testing for is CF so I'm a little scared.  She's also doing some immune system testing like immunoglobulins and such.  His pediatrician had mentioned CF at one visit but then said she doubted it b/c he doesn't have any problems with his growth.  The ID doc mentioned that he might be colonized with strep and the stomach problem is a separate issue.  We have to wait until next week for the sweat test so I will be worrying until then.
Anyone have similar experience?  Thanks in advance.  I've read some posts here and it's been very helpful so far.

Hi and welcome, I am sad you are here though <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> It is scary to have someone suggest the testing for CF. I remember the first time we were told to check for it and I was very confused and scared. One thing that helped me was to know that doctors were at least being proactive and thinking about all avenues. My son is treated like he has CF but he only has variants and polymorphisms. He has digestive, respiratory and sinus issues as well. When he has had strep, he has vomited from it too. Such a nasty bug! We also deal with frequent fevers.
If your son does test positive for CF, treatment is so important to slow progression. If it turns out negative, at least you can rule it out. There are many more parents here who can offer a lot more information and support/ideas. I just wanted to say hello and I hope you get some help and the answers you need. Hugs to you.

At my children's hospital, on average they test about 99 kids before they get a positive sweat test. That is a lot of proactive doctors eliminating CF. Chances are your daughter doesn't have CF. But good to get it eliminated as a possibility.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 9 and Jack, 7 both with CF, Grant, 2 and Paige, 7 months no cf

Mom2owen, thanks for the support. Yes, it does help to know that this doc is being proactive and trying to figure out the problem. Will post on how the test turns out.
