My 4 year old son has had recurring bouts of abdominal pain, vomiting, and intermittent fever for the past year. He always has a positive rapid strep test so he's treated with antibiotics and it just keeps coming back. He also has very pale stools when this is happening so I had to get a second opinion on the strep thing. He never has a sore throat with strep, just the abdominal pain and vomiting so it doesn't seem right. I took him to an infectious disease specialist yesterday. After reviewing his chart the ID doc seemed more focused on his other issues, like recurrent asthma, sinus infections, bronchiolitis, croup. The first thing she mentioned testing for is CF so I'm a little scared. She's also doing some immune system testing like immunoglobulins and such. His pediatrician had mentioned CF at one visit but then said she doubted it b/c he doesn't have any problems with his growth. The ID doc mentioned that he might be colonized with strep and the stomach problem is a separate issue. We have to wait until next week for the sweat test so I will be worrying until then.
Anyone have similar experience? Thanks in advance. I've read some posts here and it's been very helpful so far.
