i know their doctors but sometimes we know more then they do only because we've dealt with this all our life so when it comes time for me to have a CF TUNE UP i know what needs to be done. i also have CFRD and my blood sugars are outragiously high, well the doctors decide to put me on a diabetic diet and im losing weight, they dont understand i need the high calories, they wont listen to me about putting me on a carb count, and its very frusterating to the point to where i just want to go home,i have a cf specialist but he is in dallas and thats a far drive to go..any advice on what i should tell my doctors here.???

I read that you were in a long term care center in the hospital section. What you can do if the regular doctor does not listen is to tell him to put a call into your CF doctor as far as advisement goes. Maybe that extra push will help you get what you need. I also understand the carb thing, everytime I am in, I also get the ADA diet because of my diabetes. It takes a little convincing, but ultimately, it gets changed to a regular diet or one that has a high calorie limit with a generous carb count. They also give me plenty of snacks and drinks to help keep my weight on. I hope you get somewheres with your doctors, I really understand your frustrations.

Give em hell, but know your stuff first. Some docs forget that nobody knows your body like you do, having lived in it all your life.

If you can present your case on their level, or close to it, they will likely listen. Calling a CF doc might also help, but it depends on how willing they are to share information. Sometimes, hospitals and docs don't play nice.
