Im 18y/o and i was diagnosed with cfrd in may of this year when i went to the hospital. my blood sugar was 600!i was scared when they first told me i needed insulin but its not really a big deal at all. the only reason that i don't like giving myself the shots is because i don't have ANY fat on my body (you have to inject into fat cells). im 5'5 and i only wiegh 95lbs . if you do end up shootin up ( lol) you should ask for the FlexPens and Novofine AutoCover needles. the autocovers are AWESOME! its not just an exposed needle, its got a plastic shield all the way around it so its just like pushin a lil white plastic circle on ur belly/ butt cheek. good luck peeps!

i was diagnosed with cfrd in 7th or 8th grade i believe. and now im a junior in highschool :]
i was scared of needles too. to help me get used to being pricked i had my mom give me my insulin in the morning when i was sleeping and honest to god you dont feel it. then i progressed to her giving it to me when im up just dont think about it. and now i give myself shots. the needles are so tiny compared to standard shot needles its ridiculous! you'll be fine just don't psyche yourself out.
i hope i helped you.

I had the same problem. I was diagnosed with cfrd at about 12 and I was scared spitless of needles and blood. I took pills for the diabetes for months then got put on the insulin and it took a long time for me to get used to it. But you do get use to it and get over the fear

I used to be TERRIFIED of needles. I would seriously freak out if I had to get blood drawn or a vaccination or whatever, and I'm usually a super calm person. I'm completely numb to needles now, after a stay in the hospital I totally got over it. Trust me, you'll get over it too.
