does the vest work for you?

my brother and i, both with cf, have been using the vest for about 1 month now. the thing is, it doesn't seem to do anything! It's supposed to shake the mucus loose so you can cough it up, but after and during vest treatments, we cough, and nothing comes up. it seems useless to me, even when i did it with my hypertonic. the acapella seems to get a little more up. have you found this, or the opposite, to be true?

Sorry I did not respond sooner; I just found your post. I guess what I have noticed about the vest is that-- over time -- it has seemed to reduce the infections that my daughters get. I have no science here, but it seems like the vibrations of the vest do a better job getting at the small airways. My girls don't cough up a lot... unless they are ill ... but they also don't seem to build up as much.

I know from the clinic conversations I have had that the effectiveness of different treatments can be very individual, though.

I don't find my vest works for me at all.. I have experience currently with three vests.. The one I own is "The Vest 104 model" I think that is the newest one from that company.. I am large chested and I have a budda belly, not a little one either so I found if I wear it backwards I get a little something out of it.. Doesn't seem like enough power..

This past time I was in the hospital the hospital had the older version of the "the vest" this was my favorite so far..It really worked well, I think the pressure on it was greater and I was way more productive.. I am currently trying to find out how to trade the newer version in for an older version

Third my RT arranged for me to try the Encourage or INcourage I can't remember how it is spelled but I have not been able to adequately evaulute it because I am still waiting for the right size jacket to arrive at my house.. I did use it in the hospital and it was the same as the 104 version, I am willing to try it with a bigger size vest because so many ppl are giving it such great reviews...

So I am with you in not seeing to much improvement with the best, mannual works best for me for CPT but since that isn't an option I manage with the vest and the acappella...
