Maggie has come down with a cold 2 days ago; a pretty good one... Stuffy nose/ tired rundown...Started to feel a little better..did a half day at school... and was playing in the snow.. wrestling with her brother,,now she's coughing feels wheezy., I listened to her lungs and heard a few squeaks. Ugh, so she's doing her nebs will up her vest time...DOes your child wheeze with colds? Should I be very concerned.. No fever. Do you automatically call for antibiotics or give some time to beat it out of her? Just a little worried. She does not wheeze at every cold, last cold she has was fairly minor, over Christmas. And she did not wheeze at all . In septemeber she had a cold and was wheezy and the CF doc doubled her Bactrim for 10 days and I just nebbed and vested her alot. He does not like to use prednisone unless absolutely necessary. Thanks

Caleb does wheeze ONLY when he gets a cold and Ethan Sky never wheezes. For Caleb it definitely does not mean he needs antibiotics.

blessings,
missa

Does Maggie have an asthma component to her CF? I have asthma and I wheeze after most of my colds. Sounds like it might be an inflamation vs. a mucous issue. I've never heard Alyssa wheeze, even during a CF exacerbation.

DS wheezed a couple of times during cold and flu season when he was a baby --- RSV was going around town and while he had his synagis shots, he developed a wheeze, to which his doctor responded that we should "beat it out of him". Increased CPT, I steamed up the bathroom in the morning and evening and gave him baths to try to steam it out of him.

I DID take him to urgent care at one point and the doctor gave me a prescription for prednisone, but when I called his doctor in the city he didn't feel it was necessary at that point -- though it was overkill.

IMO, try to get her to get more sleep, push liquids, extra vest treatments and call the doctor to see what he thinks. Hopefully it'll pass quickly. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
