My eFlow and cleaning instructions came from Foundation Care. I was told to wash the eflow immediately after every use.

First rinse all parts with warm water for 10 seconds. Then the aerosal head is cleaned w/ sterile or distilled water and dish soap in a container, shaking gently for 2 min. Then rinsed w/ sterile or distilled water. The rest of the parts are then also cleaned in the conatiner (after removing the aerosal head) with sterile or distilled water/soap for 2 minutes, and rinsed w/ sterile or distilled water. The aerosal head is always stored in 70% alcohol when not in use and also should air dry before using it in the eFlow. The other parts air dried.

Once a week, after the usual cleaning, all parts are boiled in sterile water for 5 minutes.</end quote></div>

I just spoke with my eFlow rep and she basically stated exactly what you said above. Do you use IV Solutions?

It does seem like every eFlow company has their own cleaning rules, which is really strange to me. Originally IV Solutions told me to put it in the dishwasher and even gave me a dishwasher kit thing to put all the pieces in. Now they're saying to wash the pieces in soapy distilled water and rinse with distilled water. Then soak the head in alcohol after each use. They are saying not to use the dishwasher anymore and not to boil the parts. The dishwasher thing was nixed because it was distorting one of the parts (the blue piece)...although I don't think this is true. I'm not sure why the boiling idea was stopped. Using tap water apparently can stop up the head and cause it to not work correctly and that's why distilled water and alcohol are now recommended.

I will admit, I'm totally not good and following all these cleaning procedures. But I have on my shopping list to buy alcohol and distilled water this weekend so that I can attempt to be better at the cleaning process.

I didn't have time to read all the posts.......yes, seems to be a consistency problem from the company. I disinfect even more than the study drug says to...but, think I will soak in respiratory cleaner after every use. That is just the way it should be done<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I received my eflow and TOBI from a company called Foundation Care. They give the eflow for free and I pay for the TOBI. I also get 7% saline from them and a CF specific vitamin (SourceCF) from them for free. I just started using the eflow in December. I used it for my saline on the 'off month' of TOBI. Foundation Care said it was okay for use w/ the saline as long as it is cleaned immediately afteward.

I love that the eflow is so quick and quiet. I just wish the cleaning was more straight forward. After reading this whole thread, I agree that I can't believe there are so many versions of proper cleaning. Especially for something this important - potential for exposure of items back into the lungs. We truly are the new wave CF patients w/ all these treatments coming out fairly quick w/out consistent instructions.
