E Flow

I'd really like to get the E Flow to lessen the amount of time I spend on treatments and to have in case I am traveling or fishing or camping or whatever this summer.

These reasons alone are not enough for my doctor. Everything he does must be research-based. Are there any studies done with the E Flow and any of these drugs: Pulmozyme, Albuterol or Xopenex, or Hypertonic?

My doc's whole problem with the E Flow is that we don't know the proper amounts of medication to administer because of lack of studies. Any ideas of how to convince my doc that the E Flow is worth the risk?

You know....I am sorry that you are dealing with this! I wish I had the answers for you. I have gone to both of my centers with ALL of the available information and the argument and they too are so research based that they can't see the nose on their face without a study to prove that it is there.

I DID talk one of my docs into letting me use it for everything but abx......he has left though and I have not opened that door yet with my new doc. He took the time to read all the material I gave him and said he would be fine with everything except abx. He has been in the CF world for 30 plus years though and his attitude was more liberal with the realization of the bigger picture.

I hope you have better luck than I have. I have not pushed the issue because I am no longer on Tobi and I do AL which is used in the e-flow. I also don't mind doing HS in the regular neb because I like to have it for my full vest time. I will continue to follow-up with my docs and push this issue.....just have other battles to fight right now<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I've used an E-Flow for about 2 years now and love it. The only dosing change they had to worry about was my Colestin and hypertonic. The hypertonic is about the same volume but because it's so concentrated I had to go from 7% to 3%. I know that if you aren't using Pulmozyme, Tobi or Colestin, it's hard for the company to justify letting the patient use it do to re-imbursement from the insurance company. I just asked my regular pulmonologist for a script. He hadn't heard of it but once I had the script the dosing didn't seem to an issue for my CF docs to figure out. I am able to put my vest on for 15 minutes and finish all my treatments by time my vest is finished. The months I'm on Colestin treatment times are a little longer but, all in all, I'm MUCH more compliant.
