Eflow, TRIO and Altera Users

So I have been using my TRIO since Jan and I love it but that metal head gets clogged up after 2months tops of use even though I follow the directions on keeping it clean. I store in alcohol between each use. After each use I swoosh it in the tupperware bowl with distilled water and liquid clear soap and then rinse with distilled. And then once a day I put it in my AVENT steam sterilizer for disinifection. Now the pharmacy that I get it ALL from replaces my head for free every 3 months but mine is only lasting 2 months and that is even pushing it. Usually with my TRIO it takes me 20-25 minutes to do 4 drugs, which is Albuterol, HTS, Pulmozyme and either Colistin or Tobra depending on what month it is. Now I am up to 1 hour and 15 minutes to do all the drugs. It is so disappointing!!! I mean I am no worse off if I went back to the Pari Pro Neb nebulizer that took even longer and it is so darn loud. I am hoping the pharmacy will send me a new head every 2 months instead of 3 months. But it is so discouraging that I take care of it the way I am suppose to and it can not even work right. The meds are actually taking me so long to do that when I open up my TRIO there is a hardened white film on the metal head so that can not be good in terms of clogging.

So, does anyone have any suggestions to make this thing run right for a longer period of time! I mean doing all 4 drugs in less than 30 minutes was a pure PLEASURE and now I have no patience once I have seen the other side now. LOL!!!

Hmmm do you clean it between each medicine? That's the only thing I could think of.

I do not clean between each med cause the rep at my pharmacy said as long as I am doing each med right after the other I do not need to clean. But now I am wondering if maybe rinsing with some distilled water between each med might help????

Hmm I don't know what to say. I only use the Altera w/ Cayston and I noticed the other day that the Cayston is taking longer to do (probably twice as long). And I've only been using it for a month - I'm 3 days away from stopping the Cayston. Let us know what you find out.

Foundation Care said that is the problem they are finding across the board is the Pulmozyme and HTS clogg up the metal head. They are sending me a new metal head and said to use the new metal head for albuterol and antiobiotics. And use the old clogged metal head for only the HTS and Pulmozyme. SHe also said you can try swooshing the metal head around in distilled water after each use and/or actually do the cleaning step with the liquid soap after each med. So I am gonna try the rinse between the HTS and Pulmozyme and see if that helps and use the new head for only my tobra, colistin and alubuterol. This is very high maintenence!

Well it appears I will be having to use the Eflow for the Albuterol and Antibiotic and the Pari Pro Neb with my compressor for Pulmozyme and HTS. I HATE to have to use two machines but this combo makes the less treatment time vs using Eflow for ALL or Pari for all. So I will see how this goes. This is such a pain! So sad these two meds clog things up...

We have the same issues. My two daughters use the trio and we have the same problems with the head starting to gradually clog and sloooowwww down. We do everything recommended by foundation care and still have issues. I wish I had a solution for you and am hoping that someone will post one!

I have also thought about doing their HTS with our old Pari set up since I know that medicine is the culprit, but with two sets of treatments, twice a day I just haven't wanted to go that route yet!
