Elevated IGE Levels

I got an email from my nurse yesterday and she said I have elevated IGE levels. I googled it and still unsure.

They are going to test my levels again next month (actually in a couple of weeks).

What causes high levels of IGE?? I have been feeling kinda icky for the past month or so. At my clinic appointment last month they were kinda stumped as to what the problem is as my lung function numbers are stable. They thought it was my sinuses causing lots of the troubles.

Now with these elevated levels is it likely something else???

BTW-- I already have nontuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM).

My daughter had elevated IGE levels the first time they took her blood, but I think the doctor just said they were related to allergies. It was september/october so it made sense, since that's when her allergies usually bother her most. I could be wrong, but I think that's what he said.

IGE is the bodies response to allergies. So if yours was elevated you may have some allergic reaction going on, it could be as simple as dust mites or something in the air.

I believe that it is caused by an allergy. I know that Kaylas are high, and they did other test to see if she was allergic to aspergillus mold. Her ige levels have been high for years, but just recently was dx with ABPA due to other problems in addition to the elevated ige levels.

Hope that helps<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Ditto what Sherry said. They might check your blood for allergies, not the same as the prick test, but useful too, and look at aspergillus in particular--in case it is not coming up in your sputum but is somewhere deep in there.

yes, my daughter went thru this when she was 1yr old....they did blood allergy tests and it came back she was allergic to EVERYTHING...eg: wheat, soy, eggs, peanuts, dogs, cats, milk, ...but when they did the actual skin test it only showed eggs and peanuts. they will probably run some allergy tests, but i would definatley push for the skin tests rather than the blood tests because they are so unreliable.

I had allergy testing as a kid and it was inconclusive.... only some indication of grass allergies.

I am at National Jewish so I am in good hands. I was wondering about aspergillus... fooey. I just had a sputum culture but haven't heard back from that. I have been having some shortness of breath and exercise intolerance (asthma related symptoms).

I have a horrible abscessed sinus so maybe all the problems are up there. Will probably have surgery on my sinuses after the first of the year. What every it is hopefully we can start treating it soon.
