It does get easier as they get older. Here is a link to a really LONG document on CF Nutrition that discusses enzymes and the formula on weight:

This is a good one to put in favorites bc it is so long! It is a little old (3 years) but I like to re-read parts from time to time.

I just wanted to throw something in here. My daughter is severely pancreatic insufficient and has always needed to be on the higher end of the enzyme dose. One thing that has helped is to put her on an acid reducer, like Zantac, to decrease the acidity in the stomache which will prevent the enzymes from breaking down before they reach the small intestine. Something you could ask your CF doc about. Also, helpful for digestion is a probiotic called Culturelle, helps keeps up with the good bacteria in the intestines, which tend to get killed from using antibiotics, again ask the CF doc about it to make sure that would be ok.

I agree with the idea of an acid blocker and the probiotic. My daughter takes Culturelle (which has one type of probiotic) and Probiotic Eleven (which has lots of probiotics in it) daily and twice a day while on antibiotics and for a couple of weeks after the antibiotics.

I wonder if his cough is from head congestion/nasal drainage. I hope your little guy is feeling better soon. Hang in there!
