Enzymes

I am currently on Ultrase MT-18...my dosage depends on what I am actually going to eat. I used to always take them right before I was going to eat..that's how I've been taking them for a cool 23 years. But Steve Jones a CF RN out of New York (some of you may see him?let me know..) was a guest speaker last month at a meeting I went to. He insisted that we take our enzymes 8-15 minutes before we eat so it is at the bottom of our stomach waiting for the food (no sooner or later)..since doing so I haven't noticed a huge difference but have noticed I have had more "sinkers" in the toilet. He says that's a main questions he asks all of his patients "sinkers or floaters" and before changing any dosages or anything he has the patients change when they are taking them and how many with what foods.

He mentioned that we need to get away from the standard "5 with meals 4 with snacks" kinda thing..Instead he insists that we need to judge on what we are eating and how much fat is in it then we make an appropriate decision.

I learned a lot from this guy..unfortunately it hasn't helped my blockage out too much haha but I have changed my enzyme regimen. He says he has had great success with patients BMI's who tweek when they take their pills.

I used to take Viokase and then switched to Cotazyme-S. I liked that enzyme, but i think they are off the market. I remember when i went to get them the Pharmacist said he is unable to get them and thats when i was switched to Pangestyme.

I use Ultrase MT-12. I normally take 3 with meals and 1-2 with snacks. Depending on what I am eating (if it is something really greasy or pizza) I may take 4.

Is anyone else on Pancrecarb? Emily takes 6-7 pancrecarb MS-4's with meals and 3-4 with a snack...depending on what it is. This has always seemed like such high number of pills to me, espcecially in light of the fact that some of you adults are taking fewer than half that amount in a day. But, if we cut down at all, the stools get completlly greasy and Emily gets "refluxy." Also, as often as I can, I dump the diaper contents in the toilet...they all sink at the current dosage, but will float if I go down, even for small snacks.

So, I think she needs the amount she gets, but I am concerned. If her pancreas needs this much help now...will it just eventually give out some time?

Also has anyone else needed to change brands because the first one stopped being effective? This has happened to us twice in 19 months. (we did Creon and Pancrease). We've been on this over a year, so far.
