erythromycin for delayed gastric emptying

My son has severe reflux and delayed gastric emptying. He was on reglan but had side effects( tongue rolling and lip smacking)
We had a clinic appt today and his doc started him on erythromycin for this. He is one year old and will only drink 4oz a feeding and few bites of solid food.

I am really hoping this med will help. He takes prevacid for the acid reflux. Any feedback on erythromycin would be helpful. Trying to stay hopeful that this will work. Thanks

I really don't have any experience with that medication. Our son had severe reflux and delayed gastric emptying and he had the nissan procedure done to help the reflux. They gave us the option to have another procedure to address the gastric emptying, but the surgeon did not feel it was entirely necessary and since he was so small and already going in for the nissan, a g tube and to repair a hernia, we opted not to do the extra procedure. The nissan fixed the reflux, but I have to say that his appetite is still not what I want it to be. I don't know if that is because of the slow gastric emptying or because he gets the tube feedings through the night or because he is a stubborn toddler! No one ever menioned using medication for that issue, which makes me wonder why they would have suggested surgery over medicine. I hope you find some answers. Sorry I could not be of any help. Just wanted to mention we had dealt with the slow emptying issue and what treatment they recommended for Luke.

My 7 month old daughter also has severe reflux and slow motility, and eats very poorly as well (its probably because it makes them feel so crappy!). She was throwing up constantly, and her stomach emptied so slow she could throw up almost an entire feeding hours after eating.

She now has a g-tube and is on erythromycin, zantac, and prilosec. There was a definately a noticable improvement when they switched her from reglan to erythromycin. She also gets rice cereal added to her formula to thicken it and help keep it down. She is doing so much better now, due to a combination of the meds and just growing a little bigger, that we no longer think she will need the nissen procedure. She is 7 months old and currently takes .5mL before each feeding.

I hope it works as well for your son as it did for my daughter. Feel free to ask me any other questions you might have about it!
