Hi,

I am having a hard time and need some advice.

My cough has been bad for the past five weeks (basically since I found out I was pregnant).

I saw my Dr a couple of weeks ago and he put me on HTS to see if it would clear the infection. It seemed to work well for a week, then the cough was back +++ and I've been SOB really bad (gone through a whole ventolin inhaler in one week).

The Dr took me off the HTS thinking it was causing the flare up, but I have quite a bit of junk coming up too. I have two days on ventolin nebs to see if it gets better and then I am supposed to start cipro and inhaled tobra. Dr also wants me to start zithro again (I stopped when I found I was PG).

Has anyone else been on these meds while PG? I thought Cipro was really bad and so was tobra. I think zithro is supposed to be OK, but not continually like we take it.

I feel like such a failure at the moment. I can't believe I am already putting my baby at risk and it's barely 11 weeks (gestation) old <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I took azithromicyn the entire time I was pregnant. I also had three rounds of iv's. I was in the second and thrid trimester I think. AJ was born at 35 weeks and stayed at days in the hospital because he did what we call projectile vomiting. He didn't tolerate his formula. Once he was put on the hypoallgernic formula and came home he started gaining weight and was healthy. They did watch his breathing the first 24 or 48 hours because he had a little bit of rapid breathing, there is a term for it and I won't even try to spell it lol. He's perfectly healthy now. I didn't inhale tobi while I was pregnant cause I can't tolerate it inhale it. I did have tobra and ceftaz iv's. If you would like to pm me with any questions feel free.

AJ - do you have an asthma component to your CF? I ask because the studies show that 1/3 of women w/ asthma who get pregnant will have their symptoms get worse ( 1/3 will get better and 1/3 will stay the same). My asthma gets pretty much uncontrollable while pregnant. If you are in the 1/3 who get worse this could be making your exacerbation much worse. Maybe talk to your doctor about other measures to help control your asthma. Also look into taking supplemental magnesium and calcium as that can help relax the airways.

Sorry to hear you're not doing well but remember - a healthy mother is better for baby even w/ some drugs than a not healthy mother who isn't getting a good oxygen supply to baby. FWIW I took prednisone while pregnant w/ my son and it helped a lot.

I inhaled Tobi after week 12.
Took Zithromax M-W-F all 40 weeks.
I did not take Cipro while pregnant but did while breastfeeeding I do believe.
