Ugh, aren't families fun! I guess I'd tell the aunt "walk in my shoes" or to quote my husband, ask her "where she got HER medical degree". <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">And DS has always gone to church with me instead of going to the nursery. Larger church where I don't know the kids or the parents or if they sanitize the toys...DS does go to preschool and daycare, but I'm comfortable with their germ control measures.

Grocery store I wipe off the cart with the saniwipes they provide and use purell or handwipes afterwards. After gymnastics I wipe off DS' hands. I prefer he not go to indoor playgrounds at fast food restaurants. I try to avoid them during busier times or during cold and flu season and also make sure I wipe off his hands afterwards.

I'm sorry you are hearing those comments. I don't think it's unreasonable for any child to be kept out of 20 degree weather - CF or not! It's not unreasonable to keep a child out of the church nursery during cold/flu season either. It's just normal precautions, and we hear those suggestions from TV doctors on morning shows all the time.

I have watched my child struggle to breathe. I've watched him work for 3 months to gain 1 single pound! He is PS, but he does not gain weight easily, and when he is ill, he loses weight quickly.

We all want our children to live a "normal" life, but CF dictates that some things do have to be taken a little more seriously than they would if CF was not in the picture. Stay strong, and know that you are doing what's best for your child.

Most of these opinions are coming from a place of caring, but they are also uneducated. I just try to ignore without offending and go about things my way. I'm the one that has to go to bed at night knowing that I've done my very best for my little girl.
It's really hard protecting a toddler from germs when they explore so many things by putting them in their mouths. I worry about that all the time. Don't second-guess yourself it sounds like your doing a great job!

YES,YES,YES,,,,,,In fact our family just has went thur taking sides on the smoking issue...crazy as it sounds it started by one of the family asking their pediatrtion if their child could get MRSA from Grayson(she hasn't cultured that for months now) and the so called doctor gave out incorrect information and had little knowledge of CF. I then wrote an letter to all of the family with CF information thinking it would help them be more aware of what it was but it blew up in my face. They said that being around smoke(on clothing) was better for Grayson then dirt so we are being over protective. And at a McDonalds playground for a birthday party we kept wiping all of the kids hands with wipes and they said that Grayson will get sicker if we don't allow her to be around germs.....GEEZE!! She spent 6mos in the hospital and had to go back in for 2 weeks at Christmas,,,yep we are being cautious.....
