Fed Up with Doctor!!! How many of you feel the same?

I hear you. We struggle with this issue with our local doctor and know that we're going to have to find someone we trust, who we can develop a rapport with instead of constantly dealing with someone whose ego is bruised because we go elsewhere for our son's CF care.

Our CF doctor is about 250 miles away; however, he's available by phone, he's approachable and he's very proactive. Part of me hates the idea of change, transferring to a different clinic system, which I've gone to for over 20 years and DS since he was born 5 years ago. But we're not happy and we worry about the future -- the what-ifs when he eventually will need to be hospitalized...

This sounds like a no brainer. Sometimes I would say suck it up if their personality isnt great, but their medical skills are top notch.

That doesnt sound like it in your case. Feelings will be hurt all through life, but a CFers health is too important to worry about bruised egos.

It does suck that you have to travel farther for adult care, but sadly many of us do. Sometimes it just is what it is. We cant always change it.

Do yourself & other CFers a favor & seek other care!

Good Luck....

Dude... pardon my French but f*cking yikes.

Get a new one. Get a new one now. Only one in your city, whatever. If you hate her THAT much you should be able to drive to the next big city for someone else. You have to be able to at least tolerate your doctor. Hating him/her is out of the question, really. I don't have that problem luckily, I would sing my doctor's praises all day if someone asked.

I don't know where in TX you are (assuming you're in TX), but maybe try one of these others:

Baylor College of Medicine
The Methodist Hospital (ADULT)
Houston, TX 77030
Appointments: (713) 798-2400
Director(s): Marcia Katz, M.D.

Children's Hospital at Scott & White (PEDIATRIC AND ADULT)
Temple, TX 76508
Appointments: (254) 724-2144
Director(s): Dennis Meyers, M.D., John Saito, M.D.

Children's Hospital of Austin (PEDIATRIC AND ADULT)
Austin, TX 78701
Appointments: (512) 324-8264
Director(s): Allan Frank, M.D.

Children's Medical Center of Dallas & St. Paul Medical Center
St. Paul Medical Center (ADULT)
Dallas, TX 75235
Appointments: (214) 456-2361
Director(s): Randall L. Rosenblatt, M.D., B.A.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health Care
Christus Santa Rose Children's Hospital (ADULT)
San Antonio, TX 78207
Appointments: (210) 704-2871
Director(s): Peter Fornos, M.D.

Tri-Services Military CF Center
Tri-Services Military Cystic Fibrosis Center - FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL ONLY (ADULT)
Lackland AFB, TX 78236
Appointments: (210) 292-7585
Director(s): Tara Taylor, M.D.

University of Texas Health Center at Tyler (PEDIATRIC AND ADULT)
Tyler, TX 75708
Appointments: (903) 877-5270
Director(s): Rudolfo Amaro, M.D.

I would hope one of these is near ENOUGH to you that you could switch. Better than seeing someone you hate.

Given you're in Texas and you have such a negative response to your doctor I have to wonder if you have the same doctor that I had when I was younger. Last I heard she moved around Texas and switched from Peds to adult, anyway she horrible and hard to deal with. The best thing to do is to not let it affect your health and get a new doctor. Like some have said before you can do the long distance thing and see how that works out, doctors are usually accommodating. When I lived down there my tx doc was 6 + hours away so I saw somebody else in my area more frequently and they consulted on me together that way I didn't have to make the massive trip to Dallas every month and a half or whenever they wanted to see me. It might be difficult to find a way to see a new doctor but it's better than being with a doctor who isn't good for you or your health.
