<P>Hi everyone,</P>
<P> </P>
<P>I have been feeling blue lately.  My lung function is on the decline which greatly affects my morale.  I have not posted in a while because of my sadness.</P>
<P> </P>
<P>Other than medication, I would like to know what others do to pick up their spirits when they are feeling down.</P>

I don't know anything about you, (age, gender... Etc.) And on my phone on sprint's (crappy) 3g network searching posts would be like pulling teeth, but I can tell you what I do. I love rock music, for some reason guns n roses and ac/dc can get me pumped up (ya know, to a certain extent) also, tv shows/movies that will make me laugh, big bang theory is like that for me, cuz it's so funny that I'm constantly laughing, and for at least a while, it'll make me feel better...

I only recently started watching that show! It is a great show! Sheldon`s character is so humourous! As for music, I enjoy rock and will blast music to sing along when I am down. It helps a little but does not make the sadness go away.

Out of curiousity, do the blues strike you often? How often do you feel down and defeated and how long does it last? I can`t seem to shake this one

This last question is for anyone out there who wishes to also respond.

I never knew it until I became active on this website that depression is a common ailment with those of us that suffer from CF.
It makes sense, I guess. When you feel like crap & people have been telling you you're going to die at an early age ever since you can remember I guess it's only natural that will bring you down.
I wish I had a life-changing answer for you; I don't.
When I get down I just have to suffer through it. I've never been on any meds for depression.
Sometimes I think I need to obtain meds for this. It really gets old when you just don't have the drive to get up & do something. It makes me feel like I'm wasting this second chance I was given.
My lung trans did not go as well as planned; I've had lots of complications & there are many days when I just don't feel up to doing much.
Then sometimes when my body is up to doing something, my mind isn't.
So, yes, I DO get down. I don't ever feel 'defeated'. I guess I won't until its time for me to 'exit, stage left' for good.
Sometimes it will last only a day; other times it will last a few days. I don't think it's ever lasted more than 3-4 days at the most.
It seems to me a dog is a fantastic mental health aid. When I'm in a bad way I try to make myself take my dog to the park to play ball. Making her happy will manytimes run the blues out of my world.
I'll take my portable XM so I can 'rock out' while I play with my little buddy.
It helps alot. I hope this is of some help to you. Take care & let me know how you're doing OK?
There are many of us that use this site that DO care.

<P>I am sorry to see you feeling 'down',  I too, wish I had an easy solution for you.</P>
<P>I have suffered the 'blues' too,  on reflection,  mostly during the colder winter months, when I tend to stay indoors and keep more to myself.    My good Doc once told me the 'winter blues' was a common complaint.</P>
<P>I have found getting out socially, meeting with a supportive, non-judgemental friend, who  makes light of life and has the ability to make me laugh, is hugely beneficial. </P>
<P>Sometimes too,  if I take away the cf focus and absorb myself in my art, gardening or cooking a new dish,  helps as a morale booster!  A sense of achievement has to be good for the soul!    Exercise,  though is my best therapy,  an active game of tennis where you are focused on tactics and skill  [well, not always!] gives me a good measure of well-being....especially when I win my matches!!!! [again, not always!]  </P>
<P>I'm not sure what else I can suggest, my spells of sadness are only momentary, maybe if you have faith in a good Doctor, he/she  maybe able to discover an underlying cause for your feelings.</P>
<P> </P>
<P>The very best of luck, do hope your mood and lung function pick up soon.</P>

When I start to feel down and blue, something that really helps me is just taking a notebook somewhere and writing. It helps me get my thoughts in order, even when I'm not actively trying to work on that. Simply writing a little story about nothing can make me think clearer and have a better outlook on the day.

i'm in about the same boat as azdesertrat, at least a couple times a week i get struck with depression-like feelings... sometimes it only lasts part of a day, sometimes it goes over a couple days... and i just have to barrel through. But, i also believe a dog helps... i live by myself, and had a dog up until 3 years ago when he died... and i need to get another one, cuz i think that would help
