Feeling Stressed

My son who is 8 no CF is home with a hacking cough, alot of his friends have it too. Maggie, with CF, is bound to get it if she doesn't have it already. She started with a runny nose yesterday, and a little bit of juicy cough today( she coughs usually with flare-ups or if she getting a cold then it turns into a flare-up). I sent her to nursery school and they are all coughing too. So, she can stay home and get sick or go to school and get sick. CF sucks! No matter how many times we go through this it never ceases to stress me out. Nothing really anyone can do , just venting. Last week, Maggie had a virus with fever, stomach ache and she got over that without too much problem. the week before my son had strep and she didn't get that so I should be thankful. You can't have it all. Does anyone give their little ones Cold-Eeze lozenges? Is it ok for Cf'ers? My son has been taking them although they don't do anything.

I have never tried Cold-Eeze, so I cannot help there. But I do feel your pain!!! It seems like whenever one of my children catch something, the other is not far behind. But we really haven't had much more than strep this winter, thank goodness! I think that we are blessed that most parents do in fact keep their sick kiddos at home instead of sending them to school, which I greatly appreciate<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
I hope Maggie doesn't catch it, and that Sammy begins to feel better soon!

Hello

Boy can I relate to this. Ryan (2 1/2 w/CF) thankfully, has been dodging the "cold" bullets. One minor stomach virus after christmas, however, he has had several ear infections. We are going to an ENT specialist next week to get a consult regarding tubes for his ears.

My husband and I continue to stress out as well. I find, however, that this keeps us sharp and on our toes. It comes with the territory so we just face it head on because we know that eventually there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

This is my first entry, I have been a memeber since october but I have just been reading everyone's entries. I am looking forward to chatting with you all. There is definitely strength in numbers.

Thanks for everyone's replies. Sammy went to school today, he seems a little better, less coughing, just a little tired. It's hard because, I worry that what if Maggie gets this virus, if Sammy who doesn't have CF is mucousy and coughing all day, what will it do to Maggie. Viruses just stink in general, there's not alot you can do. Sammy is great, coughs in his sleeve, washes his hands, keeps his distance. I feel bad for him, in a wierd way, he can't just let his snot fly like most everyone else.

Welcome, to Gina as well, this is a great place.

It is truly a constant worry. Our 15 yo son was snotty last week and unfortunatly it was like pulling teeth to get him to keep his distance from Ryan. He just fails to really understand the magnitude of Ryan's condition. I know he just loves Ryan and wants to be around him but he doesn't make the connect. I am a nurse, so I am already a germ freak. Ryan goes to a little home daycare and his nanny is wonderful at keeping the kids seperated if someone is not feeling well. So far it has paid off. I offer wonder at times when the bottom is going to drop out. I am always a very positive person but lately I have been having these thoughts. I know that each day is a new and bright day and life will continue to go on.

I am a nurse, too. I was a nurse for 9 years before having Maggie, took 4 years off and recently went back per diem. soemtimes it's an advantage to being a nurse, doctors don't intimidate me, I know how to take care of IV's, PICC lines etc. But I'm still a mom, I worry like everyone else. The docs still talk fast and I forget stuff, I feel overwhelmed like everyone else and also know what can happen when things go wrong, so my imagination can get the best of me. I thought going back to nursing would burn me out, ya know how much caregiving can one person do? But actually, I enjoy it so far and seem to have a different perspective on things than before.
