Here is my list:
My own pillow (not a white pillow case)
snacks ( some hospitals will give you a fridge in your room)
cell phone
lap top
movies (no sad movies in hosp.)
reading material
deck of cards
Phone card (melissa gave me that idea) to call long distance, then have that person call you back on hosp phone
my own meds
slippers and compfy pjs
shower stuff, tooth paste, tooth brush, hair brush, hair dryer, lotion, etc.
baby wipes (for your hiney)

I always wipe everything down w/ disinfecting wipes when i first get in the room, phone remote, light switches, door handles, bed rails, whatever i can wipe..

If you are religious you can ask for someone to visit you, or if they allow and your hosp. has a chapel, if you could go.. i bring my pray cards, booklets, rosary beads.. Praying helps to ease my fears and gives me strength and hope..

Find out if restaurants in the area deliver, most hosp. food sucks..

If you notice that anyone is not washing their hands, remind them to, especially ppl that handle your equipment...

Don't be afraid to speak up if you feel something is wrong/and or bothering you

Drink a lot of water especially if you are not on iv fluids (iv fluids is a must for me after renal failure due to meds)

I hope you stay is short and that you have a good experience (as good as could be for a hosp stay that is, lol)

Any ?'s PM me...

Take care and God Bless you ~ joni

Take a VERY large suitcase and some hottie to carry it for you!

Also, take toilet paper!!!! After a few days of using the hospital sandpaper you will thank me!

I have forgotten if you use a vest, but IF you prefer the vest to other ways of treatment I would take yours with you so you don't have to use a germy one from the hospital. (good suggestion moosemom) On the other hand, I prefer to take advantage of the other ways of airway clearance while I am at club med. This way I can see if there is something that may work better for me and not have my insurance freak out from me buying yet another piece of durable medical equipment.

One other thing I have learned to bring (I also do this when I go to Mexico) shower proof flip flops. Hospital floors are nasty, sticky and cold!

I personally wish I stayed longer in the hospital this go around. Now I am at home (one week in, one week out, plus an extra week for slacking) and I can't find enough time, and energy, to get in enough therapy along with everything else on my schedule.

DEFINITELY take enough enzymes and insulin with you, unless you like cold food. Because waiting for the pharmacy to send up your meds can take hours sometimes. I take a little notebook to scratch down my bg levels and units of insulin so the nurse can put it in my record. I have to write everything down because all the drugs floating in my system fries my brain.

I know that your hospital nurses are very aware of CF and usually understand we are fairly competent in taking care of ourselves. So don't worry about that. Most of them are really sweet.

Oh! and as for my t-shirts? Thank you!!! I will have a new design up in probably a week. I will probably take down ones that aren't selling very well. They are kind of expensive if you ask me, but I am also not making much commission off of them. The base price is really high. There are also some cute shirts on www.TheAspenFund.org too, my friends started up that site to help me out. But, I'm with you, the tequila one is my favorite so far!
For those who are Avalanche and/or Nuggets fans, keep an eye on that page... we may be auctioning off some signed stuff sometime between now and the end of June.

First of all, hugs to everyone! You all have really cheered me up so much! Luckily my boyfriend is going down with me (he's such a sweetheart) and will probably be there a lot. I bet my parents will pay for a hotel room or something for him too lol.

The one thing I HATE about hospitals the two times I was actually in there overnight (kidney stones and tonsilectomy) they never let you sleep. I hate how things start up at 5am, then I am BEAT the rest of the whole day Maybe I will do the sign thing after a while, lol.

Ah, yes, medical students. I already don't like them anyway because I'm a pre-vet major (a bit of competition going) but it's ridiculous how little they know about a: CF, and B: people. They treat you like a specimen rather than a person. I guess that's just something they learn as they go.

I'm so happy I get to wear normal clothing! I hate hospital gowns so much...and I will probably hide some food. Reading your guys' posts cracked me up. I totally understand about the medications...they aren't getting near my insulin or pills. When I had my stone the nurse took my pills to 'catalog' them and then came back with them...an hour and a half after eating and I had asked three people...grr. But this was at the local hospital and not where I am going (Which is the Denver Children's Hospital by the way). I'm kind of excited since they just remodeled and opened a couple of months ago...flat screen tv's and all

Thanks everybody! I'll post/message again if I can think of anything else random.

~Shea

PS Aspen, I think your prices are fine! I'm used to buying University gear, so compared to that your little shop is cheap! And it goes to a better cause
