flu shots

Hello.

So I've recently seen some ads for flu shots starting at various pharmacies around my area. I've heard you're supposed to wait "as long as you can" before getting a shot since the flu season may start late and you want to be protected throughout the whole season. My question is, how long do you wait until you get the flu shot? Do you get it in October, November, December? I can't remember when I usually get mine, but think I try to wait until they've been giving them for awhile (although never long enough for them to run out). And, yes, a cf clinic near me DOES give out shots, but if anyone knows my history with my local clinic, you will know why I refuse to go to them. So, I just get it at a local walgreens, cvs, etc.

well, i'll tell you this. nationally, the flu season has started early. VERY early. so don't wait because you're bound to catch something since the season is turning out to be pretty severe.... just get the thing and if you need another one in jan or feb, you can get another one.

our Craig will be getting his this Thursday.
Incidently in the UK they are giving the pnemococal (sp) to all children under 2 years old. This is a new thing only just started this year. this will be his second.

The wife has just informed me that this is not the flu jab that he is getting this week, but the other one that they get.

I normally try to get mine in October. The past few years I have had difficulty finding a place that has them so I have had to wait sometimes until December. I personally like to get mine earlier in the season, but that may just be me.

I usually get mine in October, but this year it seems as though there's a shortage right now, so I may have to wait till November once they have more in. It usually ends up that I go to a free clinic for mine, because my clinic appointments are never usually around the time that I need the shot. Off topic - I know there's also a Pneumonia shot as well, and I have had one done, but I think that was about 4 or 5 years ago. Does anyone know how often we should be getting a pneumonia shot?

just to clarify... it's a pneumococcal vaccine, not a pneumonia vaccine. pneumococci are a type of bacteria (strepacocus pnemoniae for example) and they are the most commonly implicated pathogens for both bronchitis and sinusitis. the vaccine is good for 5-7 years.
