Forteo, Reclast or Other Osteoporosis Treatment

I was just informed my DEXA scan has showed increased bone loss. I still have osteoporosis and my CF doc has recommended I visit with my primary care physician to discuss different treatment for my osteoporosis. I'm currently on Boniva and it's no longer increasing my bone density.

Does anyone take Forteo? I'm not exactly certain I want a daily injection, but I'll take it if I have to. What has your experience with Forteo been like?

What about Reclast? Is anyone on it? Did you have any side effects? I'm worried about taking a drug just once a year. What if I have terrible bone aches/pain or something from the dose?

Are there any other Osteoporosis treatments you're taking? I'm just trying to go into this appointment with my PCP with as much information about my options as possible.

i don't take any of those things, but I am currently on Fosamax. I'm not sure if that would be a good option for you, but it's just something else to explore. It's one pill, once a week, so it's pretty easy to add into your treatment schedule. Are you also taking calcium/vitamin D? (Like Viactiv chewables?) That's secondary to a medication of course, but it's essential for bone health.

Hopefully your PCP has some good ideas for you to try. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi. the med. you mentioned, Reclast, is one of the meds. my daughters endocrinologist recommended when we were in CA. At that time it hadn't yet been approved for use for osteoporosis but was due to be at any time. That was an unbelievable almost year ago.

Post transplant they have her taking Aredia every three months. It is by IV over 2 hrs. We had seen somewhere on here, before she started it that someone had pains with it. Anna hasn't had any problems with it at all. She has had three doses so far. We do not know what the plan will be after the first year.
