Fragrance and SIL again....

Hey everyone, you all probably remember my last post about my sister in law and her perfume issue. You all were very helpful and I can tell a difference since removing plug-ins, frangranced soaps, shampoos, lotions, washing powders, ect from our home. Lexi's congestion seems to have improved. Of course I am still batteling this with my sister in law. I am going to ask your opinion on this one.
I have always had a sensitive nose to fragrances anyway because a lot of strong fragrances make me sneeze or give me a head ache. Well the latest is that my SIL swears she is not wearing perfume, but I smell it on her.... It is not nearly as strong, but I can smell it. She can walk by and smell it. She claims she has not put anything on, but how is that possible. The latest was this week she saw Lexi and I could smell frangrace with out getting very close. She swore she washed with fragranced soap and put on bath and body works lotion the night before and nothing else. How is this possible...what can I do? She claims maybe she has a natural smell about her....not! I don't think if you was with bath and body works and dont put some kind of lotion or spray on that you will smell that was for long...am I right?

I think that it's good that you're insisting she not wear perfume around your daughter...but i think that to expect for everyone to use unscented bath body wash etc is kinda unrealistic. most of the time everybody is going to have some odor to them... might even be her deodorant. Also.... it is possible that maybe her house smells of perfume if she sprays it in there? maybe she didn't spray it on herself, but kinda like if you have a pet or smoke that person smells like that odor if it's in there house.... maybe this a possibility...

I have to agree with Andrea. My husband (yes, a man) has a very pleasant smell without cologn. In fact, he can work all day, fish all day, mow all day, and he does not smell bad. Yes girls, I'm a lucky woman! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Some of those fragranced soaps and lotions are extremely potent. Afterall, they are made with oils, and they tend to have a long life. Sometimes, if you put a lotion on, and then become active later, your own body forces the fragrance to activate. They even make deodorants that are purposefully designed to do this as your body creates heat.

I am extremely sensitive to fragrances too. I can't stand to be in the pot pourri isle at the store. At Christmas when they have those cinnamon cented wreaths and such, I get wheezy just walking by them.

If you are noticing that your SIL has made an effort to be less fragrant, and the new scents are not burning your nose/throat, I think you might have to call it good enough. If your child is not around her on a daily basis, (like if the SIL was the caregiver) I can't see asking her to give up her bath lotions.
