I used to vomit all of the time from coughing but I didn't start that until I was older.....about 20 or so. I really don't know what to tell you or what to suggest.

Ughhhh! I posted previously about DS' vomiting episodes. We figured it was a combination of things. Switching to zithromax tablets and not eating/drinking as much on really warm days. We switched his zithromax before bed and we've been vomit free until...

Always one to keep us guessing -- we went out to eat on Friday evening and he ate well, stopped at a store and on the way home I looked back and he looked upset, holding his tummy and proceed to hurl all over the back seat. And then he was fine. Being that it was a fairly warm day and he'd been outside playing with his friends, I'm now thinking it's probably a not enough salt, too much fun and heat sorta issue.

I Have wondered if it is heat/salt related. She has been doing it since she was 3 days old and it does not seem to change with weather, we do live in a very hot climate, but even in the winter she vomits alot. We have been keeping track for the last month and it is every 3 days. Prior to that it was more random. The GI who we see is one of the best in the country and she has had every test he can think of including and endoscopy and gastric emptying study. Her reflux is controlled and her enzymes are fine, so it is not either of those things.

Ratotosk, I had the exact same thing happen this weekend as you did. We were driving, she looked at me and said her tummy hurt and then vanilla milkshake all over the back seat, car seat and clothes. I was stuck in traffic and there was not a thing I could do. Yuck!!! As soon as she threw up she was fine and crying for food. Kept it down just fine the second time.

I really think the vomiting is some wierd CF related thing, that is why I was wondering if other people have the same issue.

Beccasmom,

What you are sharing about your daughter and her vomitting troubles is similar to what I experienced growing up. I had a lot of trouble with nausea and vomitting until I hit approximately the fourth grade. I would get nauseated and vomit shortly after I began eatting or shortly after I was done. It didn't have to do with a coughing attack or increased respiratory symptoms, it would just happen. I don't know what made the nausea and vomitting stop, but it gradually came back when I was 19-20. Eventually I got on Protonix due to ulcers caused by to much stomach acid and also on daily Miralax. Both of these meds helped greatly. If I don't take Miralax every day I run into troubles a day or two after not taking it. Generally I will then get a large belly after eating a meal which will result in first burping and then vomitting unrelated to coughing, a lung infection, the weather, stress or what I ate. I believe this is because of motility problems associated with cf. Five or six years ago I had a gastric emptying study done with eggs and dye that came back normal. Its just seems like sometimes food goes down okay and sometimes it doesn't.

I hope this is of some help.
