Frustrated with new CF center

It sounds to me like it is about 4 hours either way -- 3 hours of driving plus 1 hour of clinic or 4 hours of clinic -- but one way you are pretty much guaranteed to see your child get sicker and the other you are not. If you have another (better) option, I hope you don't go back to this place.

This would be disturbing to me as well. Especially since you have experienced the way a clinic should be. Sometimes my girls clinic appts can last pretty long, but we are in a private room, seeing different people throughout the appointment.

When they were little, I brought a clean blanket to lay on the floor for the two of them to sit on, and toys, snacks and drinks. If my hubby couldn't come with me, I brought one of the two grandma's with me. Having two little girls to tend to, clinic appts were a nightmare if I was by myself!

Even now, the clinic staff who has been there since they girls were just babies, bring up how cute it was when they would walk in the room and the girls were just as content with all their toys and snacks<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> They have really enjoyed watching the girls as they are growing up!

My girls go to clinic at a St. Louis Children's Hospital...no adults there. The adults are seen at Barnes-Jewish. I would definately see what their procedures are as to seeing patients with Cepacia. Our clinic sees the Cepacia positive kids mostly on Fridays. They never see them on days that other CF kids are there.

This is one of the reasons we no longer go to the local accreditted CF clinic -- crowded waiting room and when we questioned it, the doctor responded that it shouldn't bother us because we send DS to daycare, and besides they've never had a cepacia patient. The last visit a nurse came in and said "okay, we're going to trade rooms" and I refused because there was a young man in the room with a very productive cough and they weren't going to make any effort to sanitize either room, just have us switch. One doctor never washed his hands. And this is an accredditted CF clinic.

We drive 4 hours to see a cf doctor. Rarely have to wait longer than few minutes in the waiting room and appointments don't take more than half an hour.

Thank you for the responses. It makes me feel much better talking to other CF parents and confirming my thoughts. We have made appts at a private pulm and the other CF center an hour and a half away. We will see what is a better fit.
