G-tube covering for swimming?

My daughter still has the long tube after getting a g-tube placement in March. Our GI doc said that Addie shouldn't swim until she gets the mic-key button because the salt water or chlorine might sting.

She won't be getting her button til August, which means an entire summer of no swimming. That's not gonna fly, Addie is a froggy and lives in the water.

So I want to know what others did while their kiddo had the long tube? I found a waterproof bandage, but the tape is super sticky and would probably be more painful to take off than her skin exposed to salt water. I'd love any advice. Thanks! Elise

I'm not sure what to tell you -- we didn't get the long tube, our surgeon went right to the button. I hope you find a solution.

You could wrap the tube and cover it with Tegaderm (4x4) or AquaGuard. I would definately ask for the button sooner than August. I know people who swim with standard PEG tubes in swimming pools.

Have you thought of using tegaderm? Put a piece of gauze over the site and then place the tegaderm over the tube. You can just coil up the tubing. This is what I did for my daughter and it worked out fine. Tegaderm is pretty decent.

P.S. The wait time for a change over to mickey is 6-8 weeks, you should speak with him about what he has chosen such a longer time span to wait.
