Could anyone who has had the G-tube within tha last few years fill me in on some of the finer details of it. For example did it did heal the right way. Does it restrict movement at all. Were there any problems later that no-one mentioned ahead of time. Did you regret having it done or not. You can pm me if you don't want to respond here. Just looking for as much info as you'll can give me.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">

Garran got his G tube last February (2006). In fact in two days it will be a year. The first one they put in was a longer adjustable one because they knew there would be swelling. Then after about 3 weeks he had the MICKEY button placed that is smaller profile and easier to change. we change it out every two - three months here at home and he does very well with it. Still plays outside and in PE class. the biggest problem we had was a little discharge around the site now and then, which usually happens if he gets it bumped real hard. Otherwise it has been a blessing and makes dinnertime alot more agreeable to us all. No more fighting him to eat. He has gained about 13 pounds and 5-6 inches in height. but he is only 5 so 13 pounds is alot for him.

Best of Luck with everything!

I was thinking that the procedure probably changes slightly every few years so I was looking for people who had recent ones done. Anyone that wants to share their experience is welcome though.

Jade, my boys had theirs placed 2 1/2 years ago. They have had a few minor issues with them, nothing big. They work great and have allowed for considerable weight gain. The original decision was emotional but mostly because we were not given much time to think and prepare.

I have lots of info on it if you want to PM me with some specific questions.

Same with me, PM with specific questions. I dont mind at all! Reece had his placed March 06. Like Jane & Vik say minor problems that get a quick fix. As far as healing goes....I would say a week. He also had his port place the same time so hard to tell which healed faster as far as pain goes. He was pretty good about the whole thing. I was the one with all the cringes! He is totally fine now & sometimes picks at it almost pulling it out....& I freak out saying "stop your gonna pull it out!" he says "its fine mom!"

In my PM, I talked about having a choice between different kinds of G-tubes. As an adult, I think you will have an option. With children and babies, they use the MIC-KEY exclusively.

Here's pictures of the two kinds of devices used.
