Not FDA approved? Oh reeeeealllly????

I would be scared to have such an uninformed doctor....

he eFlow® SCF was cleared for marketing and use by the FDA on May 5, 2004.

I know you're worried about your doctor being mad, but you should be more worried about your health and compliance.

Remember: No one has more of an interest in your health than you.

Ask her to explain why she's not up to date regarding a 4 year old FDA approval for the eFlow.

fyi amy-you aren't the end all be all of knowledge about cf. i don't know what makes u think u have the right u talk to people like u are cyber god, but good luck w that.
its not gonnna fly w me though. i have a life outside here.

btw i am extremely compliant and have tremendous interest investted in my health. the fact that i have a one year old child is testament to my work.

as for the fda approval, i am aware of it. however i think she speaking about speicifc meds. she is not an uninformed doctor. i think she is playing the liability card w the eflow issue. at the recent yearly conference the foundation told docs to stop prescribing it until further testing has been done.
now do i personally agree w that? no. i think there is political crap going on w the eflow issue, like 65roses touched on.
but i can't forge a prescription. my plan is to let the issue rest until i see her face to face next month. at that time i will bring in documentation and question her about it. sometimes these things just can't be done over the phone. things get lost in translation.
when u disagree w your doc its a touchy issue. if u don't like them, then its simple-get a 2nd op or leave. but i have built a relationship w this person for years now and we have a mutual trust. its not just a doc/patient thing here. with a sparkling clean record of 5 years and vastly improved health for me-do u call a doctor a bad doctor, or an uninformed doctor bc of one spot on a perfect record? NO. thats ignorant.
its like a marriage-sometimes if your spouse disagrees you have to step back momentarily and not fight the issue. you can bring it up later.

I agree that when you can get in to see Dr. W & talk face to face with documentation, questions & etc it will be better.

She isnt closed minded. She is cautious because she has had too many things happen to patients when they chose to either ignore her concerns or by pass her completely.

Besides if you address it first then when I am ready she will be broken in for me

Thank you for your supportive words. I know we are all caught between a rock and a hard place with the eFlow issue. I can only speak about the "relief" it has brought me (no medical advice here) regarding nebulizer time, noise, convenience and ease of travel.

If you need documentation supporting the medical findings on the eFlow (if you think it would help your doctor with her decision), you can call Foundation Care and they will fax your doctor the information.

I understand your relationship -- I, too, value my relationship with my doctor and it is always a hard line to push and one you don't have to. The world of nebulizers is filled with options, I just know we all want something which is faster and more convenient and for now, the eFlow seems to fulfill both of these requirements. The frustration comes knowing there is a product out there which can alleviate so much of the hated things about nebulizers and not knowing why some doctors are prescribing it and others aren't.

Of the 26 patients I support, 18 are with care center doctors and 6 of them have the eFlow. The other 8 are with non CFF care center doctors and all of them have the eFlow. I don't know what these numbers suggest, if they suggest anything, but hopefully the hesitation of prescribing the eFlow will be soon come to pass. Good luck to you.
