Mine is located above my right breast, it sticks out a little. Wherever a doc can find a suitable vein, a port can be placed. I know of one person who had one in her femoral area, her groin! I hope mine lasts for awhile, but the docs say I still have alot of viable veins to works with if that one fails for some reason. So far so good....good blood return, no infection or real pain, even when I accidentally bump it. The vest doesn't affect it either, but when it is accessed, I do pad it. Personally, it has been a godsend to me, no more PICCs, I have had way too many problems with those things. Emily, good pics...never seen a port located there. Docs also can "tunnel" the ports, mine is located in the subclavian vein, but the port is tunneled to my upper part of my breast.
