I had one placed a couple of weeks ago. Where are yu going to have it placed? As far as the sedation they gave me a little virsed and phentonal. Awesome drugs. You do not give a S**t what they are doing to you. I took the rest of the week off, I was pretty sore, but I am a nursing assistant, and do a lot of lifting.

I have a funny story about when I got my port...
They just gave my some verced (sp?) to knock me out a little but I was still somewhat aware of what was going on . It was like I was sleeping but could still hear the docs talking. They had a sheet covering my face, so they couldn't see me and I wasn't talking at all. Just as I was becoming more conscious I blurted out from underneath the sheet, "It's the quiet ones that are the kinky ones!" I have no idea why I said it, but you can be sure the docs got a good laugh from that one.

I'm getting my port tomorrow (Feb 8th). The hospital seems sort of leary about letting us video and/or take pictures during the procedure, so I'm guessing we won't know whether it's okay until we actually go tomorrow.
Worst case I'll take some pictures afterwords and post those for anyone who's interested in seeing them.

When they put my port it, they totally snockered me out, they figured "hey, she's already on a vent, no need to worry about respiratory depression" so they gave me the good stuff. I was out for about an hour or so, not sure...LOL! My port you can only see a little bit of, the scar you can see, it is fading even now. I hope your surgery goes well, hugs to you! You will be a bit sore for a few weeks, thankfully mine was accessed before I woke up from surgery so I didn't have to feel them groping for it after being poked and prodded.
