Getting the most out of the vest

For those of you who have been using the vest for a while, how do you 'maximize' its impact? I've only tried on in the Dr's office at this point, so I'm not really sure what to expect.

I guess it shakes the secretions loose, and you then use breathing techniques to move the stuff up to where you can cough it out?

What works best for you?

One thing I always do is stop the vest about every 5 minutes...or sooner if I think I need to. I let it deflate completely and then do some huffing. You have to stop it occassionally to bring stuff up. You can't have it running full bore the whole time and expect to be able to work agains all that pressure and vibration to bring stuff up.

I do mine while I am doing my saline treatments. I start at 12 HZ, after fifteen minutes go to 14 HZ, then fifteen more to 16 HZ, then 18 HZ and 20 HZ for whatever is left. I wonder if there are any more informative articles on the subject cause now I am a little curious. When I've been hospitalized the people that come in to "help" have never had a problem with the method I use so I don't know.

I have a Vest 104 and I read No Excuse's blog about the vest and changed my settings to (five minutes each setting):

Frequency: 6, pressure 6
frequency: 8, pressure 5
frequency: 9, pressure 4
frequency: 18, pressure 4
frequency: 19, pressure 3
frequency: 20, pressure 2

And I think it has helped (and I've almost gotten used to the higher settings, though my cat hasn't, lol).
