Hi everyone.

Well, I figure I"m due for a cleanout (slight fever, SOB, coughing up tons, tired all the time, etc.) and have scheduled a trip to Salt Lake this week to be admitted Weds. for IV meds. I'm praying they'll let me do the last part of the IVs at home so I don't miss turkey day (and cause I'm terrified of hospitals and germs...) So, I will for sure be in from Weds. until the following Weds. as they require at least a 7 day stay before taking meds home.

I'm really really nervous since I've never had a picc at THIS place nor have I been admitted since high school (I always did home health from day 1). So, please send me all the positive thoughts you can. <img src="">

And, if anyone has a link to that list of stuff people bring to the hospital, please let me know. I am going to pack and drive half of the way tonight, and am feeling really overwhelmed right now and can't think straight. What do you bring to make it feel "like home"?

Thanks everyone,

Bring Lysol wipes!!!

My kids bring their own clothes, CDs, game boys, videos, books, snacks, drawing pad and pens. I always bring a little perfume spray to "freshen up" the bathroom. I spray an extra paper towel and tuck it up out of the way. If we stay for a while, we bring pictures of our cats.

You are very lucky to have been able to do all you stuff at home. I hope it is a quick trip for you and you don't miss out on the turkey!!

A favorite blanket, pillow, and snacks. I also take my pound puppy that I've had since I was 8. He's been through every hospital stay I've ever had and I'm amazed he hasn't fallen apart yet. Another thing I like to take if they have anything to play them are dvd's. And my portable cd player so I can listen to music instead of the noise in the hallways during the day. Hope this helps a little and I'll pray for you to get better soon!

Sorry you are going into lock up,

Things I bring with me

My own Meds.. especially enzymes... Nothing is worse then waiting for the nurse to bring your pills in so you can eat.

My own pillow.. ( sometimes) usually I don't unless I bring a second pillow case cover.. to change.

Knitting, books, magazines, etc

I always bring air freshner, always, I bring a natural one that doesn't bother my lungs. Everyone who comes into my room always says how good it smells in my room.

Lotion and chapstick.. this time of year the hospital has the heat on and it is dry in there..

Bring your own snacks and favorite drinks, much cheaper then the vending machine.

Cell phone charger, Cute PJS, slippers, etc.

Most hospitals have internet connection now, so maybe if you have a lap top you can bring that...

Hope you feel better fast

My packing list includes:
Pillow
Teddy Bear
Soft/Warm Blanket
PJs - sleeveless shirts - easier to acces the IV
Zip up sweaters - easier to get on and off with the IV
Socks or slippers - keep your feet clean/warm when walking on the cold floor
Also of course regular clothes and such

I also pack bathroom supplies as the hospital will give you supplies but they are not great.
Shampoo and Conditioner
Soap - for shower and hand soap
Comb
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Hair Ties - if your hair is long enough to be pulled back
Nail Polish and Remover - it gives me something pampering to do to myself when I am bored

Fun Things:
Portable DVD player and 10 favorite DVDs - if you have a DVD player that is
Usually 6-7 good books or books I have been meaning to read
Coloring books and Markers AND crayons
Address book with phone numbers and a calling card with plenty of minutes in case you need to or want to call out for any reason
A deck of cards or other card games - we have games like canasta, spite and malice and others (all games that you can get at Target, Walmart or KMart in the games/card games section)

Also bring meds - Enzymes if you take any, insulin with syringes if you take any, Advair, inhalers any other pill.

I usually take everything EXCEPT aerosol meds and antibiotics with me in the event that the pharmacy does not get them sent up in time. I know they usually always have a problem the first 24 hours with having all of my meds ready for me to take - it is ALOT less stressful if you just have them all with you so you don't have to worry about it.

Don't forget all of your insurance stuff and your ID too. I have forgotten those before - luckily I live in the same town as my hospital, so it wasn't that big of a deal. If you are traveling a good distance to your hospital though it would be a pain to not have those.

Also go prepared with what you want to wear home when you get to go home. I know that may seem silly, but you may want to check the forecast and see what the weather will be like when you are leaving next week that way you know you have clothes that are appropriate for the weather to come home in. It stinks to go to the hospital and it be cool and only take cold weather clothes for it to be summery when you go home or to only pack warm weather clothes and it be chilly when you go home. Both have happened to me (the joys of ever changing Florida weather lol) and it makes for an unpleasant/uncomfortable car trip home.

Take Care and I hope you get to feeling better soon and are home in time for Thanksgiving.

Take Care,
Lindsey
