Going to the Zoo. Is it a bad idea??

This may be a totally paranoid question, but I dont' want to end up regretting later on.

My CF baby is 7 months and I have 2 older children (7 and 2 yrs). I would like to take them to the zoo this weekend (mostly for my older kids). Any opinions on whether it is a bad idea to bring my youngest with CF?

We just went to the zoo the other day w/ our 1 and 5 year old both with CF. Just bring sanitizer with! You have to live life! I assume the baby will be in a stroller most of the time? Just make sure the other kids know not to touch the baby without cleaning their hands first <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">)

DS loves the zoo and has gone since he was probably 1 year or so old. We just bring along hand sanitizer and wipes. And as mentioned above, your youngest will most likely be in a stroller anyway.

DD has been going to the zoo since she was a baby. We've been there so many times over the years. I don't think you are paranoid. You are trying to be prudent.

Go to the zoo! My son has been going since he was a baby, and loves it! I just purell his hands down throughout our trip. Today we did the fair and the petting zoo. He loved it!

I asked all the same questions when he was a baby...It's sooo scarey. But you will just get into your little routine and be fine.

Love,

My best advice is to do everything just the same for you child with cf as though he didn't have cf. Well, except treatments obviously and add lots of hand washing.

My opinion might not be popular but for what it is worth...

I would go to the zoo but keep your baby away from any areas with still water. Having older kids use Purell is a good advice, but PA grows in still water and our hospital advised us to keep our dd w/CF more than 3 feet from any ponds, lakes, reservoirs etc.

IMHO you can have fun at the zoo without risking your baby's health, I just went there with my 2.5 y/o. My dd had PA when she was 1.5 y/o, belive me it is not fun.
