growth hormones

It seems like everyone was older than Luke when growth hormones were introduced which makes me feel better because my thought is--can we give it more time or is this his window of opportunity..so now I guess I kinda know the answer to that. I am definetely going to go and meet with them and see what they think...sounds like we need some baseline blood work and x rays to start...good to know to make sure they check those things...thank you so much for all of those details...that is exactly what I need to know.
And as Nanaof8 mentioned, he is very bow legged and I really think that also contributes to him measuring so short. We are seeing ortho. for that, but they have not come up with any real answers as to why he is so bow legged or what to do about it.
I will have to see if my mom or my husband's mom have the info. on our heights. We are both the youngest in our families, which means we were allowed to get away with murder, but our baby books are non existent lol!

I used to have growth hormone injections for about 5-6 years! I began using them when I was about 4, I was very short and very skinny so my drs decided that this would help. I really didn't like being given shots every day (what young child would?) and my mom would have to wait until I went to sleep to give them to me. Well, when I turned about 10 or 11, I stopped using growth hormone by drs orders. Quite frankly, I think that if I hadn't used the GH I would be a lot smaller than I am now! I believe that part of why I'm soo short/small is because of genetics and there's nothing I can do about that. I am 5' and 98-100 lbs..this is as tall as I will get and we're working on getting my weight up (I've always had problems with my weight..part of the reason why I started using GH). My advice to you is to use the GH and when your son reaches the usual peaking age, to stop and just let nature take it's course from there. If the problem is genetics, there's no changing that, but if it's because of a condition the GH will hopefully help that! Hope this helps

My older son was always petite (thin and short). He has always been around 5% on the height chart and he's struggled with keeping weight on his whole life. He was always very active in sports, especially basketball. His size was never a problem until junior high when the other kids had their growth spurt.

When he was 13, the endo asked us if we'd like to look into GH but we decided to wait. He had his teen growth spurt late (17-18), but is now a respectable 5'7". His dad and I are tall (5'9" and 6'1") but he is comfortable with his body and glad he waited.

Just wanted to post a quick repsonse for any future "seekers" of GH info. We actually started working with a new dietician who helped us with enzyme dosing and we changed his enzymes for his overnight feeds (kinda had to when the dc'd viokase powder). We increased his night time tube feeds, started giving his vitamin in conjunction with a fatty snack or meal and bumped up his protein intake as much as possible. He is now almost to the 25th percentile for height and is no longer bow legged. We just now saw the endocrinologist (b/c it takes that long to get an appt). He measured Luke and said "make an appt. for a year from now in case you need it, but only keep it if he isn't doing as well as he is now". So my advice--exhaust the nutrition aspect unless you know for sure that your child is not making any GH on their own.
