gtube hole?

okay so its been a while since i had gotten a g-tube...i think i was 16 and had it in for a year only.

since i was a minor my parents made the decision and i really do regret them making it because it didnt help me put on weight at all..it was a matter of blood sugar and cfrd. the dr jumped to conclusions. blah.

anyways. my point.
i have a small hole on my stomach now. it really isnt big but its there.
i thought that when they took the gtube out they were supposed to stitch it together??
is there ANY way i can get this done. i mean it doesnt look too bad but i would really like to not see a hole in my stomach. haha.

or would this be only for cosmetic reasons they would stitch it?
should i ask my cf dr?

I had my g tube hole closed when i was 15, had it since i was 9 years old, its a cosmetic operation so had to be admitted for 2 days and a course of IVs, depends on the individual so you may not need them. I had to prove i could maintain my weight before the "closed " the hole just in case. Its nt just stitching the top bit theres some muscle and possibly part of the stomach wall as well so it is usually done under general. Ask your doc see what they say. The hole wont completely close its a bit like an ear piercing.

hope this helps

Hi Tamara,

You should definitely talk to your GI doctor about getting the hole closed. I wouldn't call it purely cosmetic, no one wants a hole in their stomach.

I remember when I got mine out the doctors told me it was close on its own, and I had it in for 8 years! Needless to say, I had to push to get it surgically closed after an entire cup of coffee poured out of my stomach!

Good luck.

I had mine for about 5 years. Mine closed on its own, but I think I have an adhesion to my stomach. When I am hungry I can feel my gtube area pullnig in. Thats the best way to describe it.

whoa!

I'd say its more than comestic! Although you could possibly join a circus and do a trick with it! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

(That comes from the story of how they figured out you can do g-tubes... in the civil war a guy got shot in the stomach, he healed but the hole never closed... so him and the doctor traveled around doing a trick where the guy would swallow something and the doctor would pull it out of the hole)

anyways, its funny b/c doctors always say that it will close on its own, whereas what I have seen on here and other sites... more than not, they have to surgecically close it. My pediatrician always told me it was like an ear piercing and it would close up just like that.

I imagine the longer you have it the harder it is to close.

So- is it like a skin lesion? Or like a scar? Because if its more like an open wound I'd say hell yea it needs to be closed. BTW- I haven't worn earrings in at least 6 months and my holes still haven't closed up. Not trying to close them up- I just put in a pair today. But point being, everyone's body reacts differently and heals differently.
