I got mine about 8 years ago at the recommendation of the dr. At the time my FEV1 was in the upper 40's but I remember I was incredibly sensitive to the weather at the time. Walking a short time in damp or cold weather would have my sinuses hurting horribly the rest of the day so that I was nearly throwing up.
Nowadays my FEV1 runs 33-40%. I use mine all of the time, with the exception of good weather days when I am feeling up to walking. I figure I need the exercise and I admit it does feel good when I can park further and walk!
As for the comments and looks, in PA I had lots of them, but since we moved to GA I haven't had any. Half the population down here seems to have Handicap Plaquards! That also makes it hard to get the handicap spots. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
