HAS ANYONE EVER HAD A

I have had several surgeries on my feet to remove plantar warts -- big tip here... always wear shoes in public places -- water socks if at a wet place, but always, always keep a barrier between your feet and where other people step, the wart virus can stay alive on a surface for something like 24-48 hours.

My surgeries did not include digging and freezing, just the digging part :) the whole thing needs to be removed. Yes, I needed to take it easy for a couple of days, foot up, no extra walking, crutches could be used if I wanted, but mostly I just planned on a couple of easy days at home, with lots of sitting time, but getting around the house was not a problem.

Also the info Jody listed about the banana peel was just published in the newspaper here - a doctor published it in his daily column. But it sounds like you may not have time to try that if he is having so much trouble walking on it already.

One thing to ask the podiatrist is about the possibility of it coming back. My doctor mentioned that sometimes due to the stress of the surgery and the nature of the virus, you can dig them out one place and they will pop up another place... this happened to me over and over, until I finally wised up and put shoes on at Tae Kwon Do !!! Don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but there's my story... good luck!

I actually have one right now, and let me tell you the wart is killing me! I also started out the same way (felt like there was something stuck in my foot) that was more than a year ago, but I ignored it because people who had experience with them told me the foot Dr would cut it out. (me and "cutting" dont mix) so anyway the wart had a year to really dig its roots way down in my foot (mine is on the ball of my foot). But because of the wart my whole stepping pattern has changed, and now I have plantars arthritis in it. I tried eveything over the counter, wart remover, plantar wart remover, that freezing spray stuff, and nothing worked. I went to the podiatrist in the beginning of June and he has been cutting away at it, because you get a really thick callus that protects the wart. He also puts some really strong salicylic acid and some cauterizing stuff. He is trying to remove it that way because I dont want it dug out, but it really isnt working. I havent been to him in about 6 weeks, and I am starting to limp again, your son is right this thing hurts! So with all that said I would just get it done right the first time and have it cut out (providing your son and "cutting" mix) or you can take the baby route like me, but it does need to be removed.

As for the banana peel remedy, it's not as effective on plantars warts and it sounds like your son's is pretty far along but it doesn't hurt to try it. A cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar or duct tape will produce the same results. The theory is that they irritate the skin thus "sending" more blood cells to the site to battle the intruder. These are very effective treatments for "normal" warts.

Some people are suseptible to warts and others are not. Warts, cold sores, herpes are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV).

Thank you all so much for the advice.

I am hoping he will be better by September 22 because we are going on vacation and are going to be doing ALOT of walking. I would hate for him to be in pain on vacation!

Alyssa,

this happened to me over and over, until I finally wised up and put shoes on at Tae Kwon Do !!!

HUGE lightbulb moment for me. Cameron is in Tae Kwon Do and does not wear shoes. Will order him some ASAP!
