Has anyone had sinus surgery due to polyps?

I am a 33 yrs old with CF (very mild case) and I have had 3 nasal polyps/sinus clean our surgeries. Lots of bleeding my first surgery. I have lots of damage to my sinus (bone) due to the polyps being left along for so long. Other surgeries were very minimial and much easier to recover from. I haven't had a sinus surgery for over 10 years and doing fine so far.

I'm actually about to go in for sinus surgery in early December. Not for polyps, but because there's no drainage (maxillary sinuses are clogged with mucus). But as one who's been through this surgery once before, it isn't a big deal. I came out and was in a little pain (like someone had smashed a frying pan into my face), but Vicadin does wonders for that. They stuffed these little foam pieces in my nose to absorb the blood (they're so far into the nasal passage that they can't be seen). I was in the hospital for one day post-op on blow-by oxygen just to make sure, and within a week I was fine. I went back for a follow-up with my ENT, where she numbed my nose and removed the foam packing. That was pretty much it.

Good luck to your daughter!

My last polyp removal was just before the extinction of the dinosaurs (shows how old I am!!).
I had to go in twice...once was as a 'local', til the ENT doc found out a whole lot more hiding behind what he could get with the 'local'.
It was amazing how well I could finally breathe through my nose, and even taste the food I was eating...went back to my likes and dislikes, so my dad's liver and onions dish went back to the very bottom of the list!
However, since then, I haven't had serious trouble, but would use gargle medicine in Japan (looks like iodide with the orange-brown color) and run it through my nose whenever I started getting congested. Keeps my sense of taste, so I know what 'unfamiliar' dishes are being served, and when to avoid them!
I just hope I won't be needing any after finding out how often it can come up.

I had the surgery when I was 14 years old. They have actually changed the shape of my face slightly. I stayed in hospital overnight to monitor any bleeding etc, then went home the next morning. The worst pain was when they took the packing out. I had horrible headaches for about two days and then I was fine.

These days I know that some places use dissolvable packing, which is a lot less painful and a lot easier. Anyway, thankfully most people recover quickly from sinus surgery and your daughter will feel wonderful when she can breathe through her nose again!

I had polyps removed when I was 9 or 10 or something like that and I am now 38 and they never came back. I was told that b/c I have CF they MIGHT come back and thank goodness they didn't....

I had the surgery when I was 15, and 12 years later I have 2 small polyps. I do saline irrigation and take Beconase (steroid nose spray) and it has been successful for me.

Good luck
