Has anyone had sinus surgery due to polyps?

I had the surgery when I was 15, and 12 years later I have 2 small polyps. I do saline irrigation and take Beconase (steroid nose spray) and it has been successful for me.

Good luck

Reply for Stella,
Basically, if the polyps are not removed, one or all possibilites occur:

constant sinus infections
constant colds
constant lung infections
constant sinus drainage
constant stuffy nose
frequent headaches (like your head's gonna explode!)
loss of the sense of smell
loss of the sense of taste
your speech or voice changes due to no nasal passage clearance
more polyps grow

That's what I can recall from when I had polyps for over two years before (finally) having them removed. Anyone else able to add to the list?

Guess I'll add my story to the mix....

From the time I was dx'd at 2 until I was 12 the ONLY problem I ever had was sinus'. I would have about 1 sinus infection ever 2 months and I couldn't smell or breathe through my nose, and I had hardly NO taste. Finally my CF doc thought I was old enough to see a specialist.

I went to an ent for the first time. I did the CT scans, the mri's, the tubes up the nose. My doc was a loverly women who is now off doing research, she was old adn said that I had the wrost sinuses she had EVER seen. So she said I need to have sinus surgery.

They had decided that unpon doing the surgery I should ahve my first "tuneup". I had NEVER been on iv's before. Well I had my picc place and went through a weeks worth of anti's before the surgery. I had the surgery. Well i think they clear like 20 polyps or something, but since I was young and so compacted they could only do the front part. I felt fab, I could actually smell. That ended 3 day later I could breathe, they did another CT scan only to dicover that I was completely blocked again.

Since then I have had one other sinus surgery and that was 2 years ago. I was referred to another ENT and she did a fab job. She went a little deeper, and my recover time was a little long (like 5 days instead of 2, I'm a quick surgery recover-er) I used a compination of ocean saline nasal spray and rhinocort to keep clear. It has only been in the past month that my sinuses have become "stuffy" again. I am to have act done of them and then surgery sometime in jan
(would of had sooner but my hubby if coming home from the army for christmas and I just had surgery) ad I have a deveated septum which also means that b/c of polyps my left side is totally blocked. and we paln to fix that as well

I ahve mixed opinions about it. One I feel that It lead to chronic and often lung infections, but where these inevitable anyways? The second is this, I can actually smell and taste and sleep with my mouth closed. So it has good and bads and everyone is diff.

Good Luck
