Having more than one child with cf

there are some concerns that I have for my children sharing germs. We have completely separate areas for their medicines, this way nobody shares inhalers, or nebs. We actually went a step further, and use separate juice cups. It's not like that makes a huge difference b/c they use the same silverware after it's washed, but somewhere in my brain, it made sense at the time. I also make sure they don't eat or drink off each other. My daughter was culturing pseudomonas at the time my son was born, and (knock on wood) he has never cultured it. Thankfully, right now, my daughter isn't culturing it either.

To be completely honest with you, if I HAD to pick something positive out of both of the having CF, it would be that they have each other to go through it with. It's not just taking one child to the doctor, while the other runs around with no problems. They're each others buddies. They do their vests together, meds together & share each other's pain when it's time for blood draws each year. Hope this all helps.

Tracey, mom to Sydney 8, w/cf & asthma, and Seth 4, w/cf both DDF508

Hi Marylou

yes, I have three children with cf...we werent going to have more children after the first two had cf.

I dont believe in abortion. When our two oldest were in their later teens and neither had been sick or in hospital, and because both were great kids we decided to have another child.

Well, he did have cf. He has been a little sicker then the older two, but he is very well also.
I didnt have any screening for cf while I was pregnant.

Our last child was a 'surprise' child...he didnt have cf.

I dont think either of my older two were sicker because they both had cf. I do think the youngest caught pa earlier from his oldest brother.

Personally, I wouldnt consider abortion with MY particular cf children. They are perfectly healthy and have all led normal lives. Granted, other people suffer terribly from cf and may have different views about it.

The thing with cf is, you just dont know what the outcome will be, they told us our oldest would die before he was a teenager...ofcourse, he wasnt ever even in hospital til he was about twenty.

Hope this helps <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Please don't kill your baby. Did you know that there are alot of families out there who are on a list to adopt a baby with CF? It would be great if one of them could adopt your baby.
