Headed to the Hospital

When I had sinus surgery it was about a 45 minute procedure. But I don't know how the extent of what they did for me (polyp removal) compares with what your child is having done. With all the prep before and getting 'with it' after, it was easily 2 hours. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Bronchs are about a half hour procedure. But again it depends on what they're doing. One of mine was about an hour, because they wanted to do a lavage in more areas of the lung to test more fully (this was before my CF DX). And they did some biopsies too.

Sorry I can't answer on tune-ups. I've never had one!

Hey Amy,
The actual bronch will be quick. It's the prep time that takes the longest. But expect 30 minutes to an hour.

Tune-ups typically take three weeks, but can vary. Are you going home on picc lines, or staying in the whole time?

Remember to ask the doctor to keep the peripheral ivs in. If the iv meds need to have levels run, using the ivs for meds and the picc for blood draws will prevent many unnecessary pokes!

Also, the very first day, ask to be put on a med schedule that will be easy for you to follow at home. This will make it much easier to transition to home care.

Don't forget your Lysol wipes. I go through a ton because I don't use them for multiple surfaces. I use one for bedrails, another for the phone, another for the sink, etc. I read an article about disinfecting wipes actually spreading germs if they are overused. It's worth the extra $4.00 to buy an extra container!
Good luck to you and your kiddos!
