Hello, I'm new here.

I have two beautiful children age 2 and 8 months with another baby on the way.

My 8 month old son has been sick throughout the whole winter. He had a negative Chloride test in Feb. He seems to be doing okay. He is always breathing funny and has a bad cough. He did have failure to thrive, but has caught back up.

Today I found out that I am a carrier of CF. My husband will be tested on Monday.

I also called my Pediatrician today to get the exact number that the chloride test revealed. Just to make sure it wasn't a high negative. Still waiting on them to call back.

Do any of yall that have CF have problems with rashs or yeast problems? My son had a bad yeast infection on his genitals, stomach, in his nose, and in his lungs. We got it cleared up. Now, I took him to the doctor with a rash and they said it looks like a viral rash and to give him benadryl and 10% cordizone cream.

Did anyone here have negative tests when they actually had CF? How accurate are the tests?

I do have a 16 year old cousin with CF, that is why I was tested for the gene.

Look foward to getting to know all of you.

--- well I just got off the phone with pediatrician. They said his test results were less than 10.

Hi there. I'm sorry you are struggling to find answers for your son. To answer your questions about sweat test numbers, yes there are members here who have negative sweat tests and still have CF. With your family having a history of CF, and your son's symptoms, I think you should have your doctor order the full-panel Ambry DNA test. There are over 1500 mutations, and checking for anything less is useless to rule out CF.

The rash/yeast question I'm not so sure on. My son did have a lot of yeast issues as a baby/toddler, but it was because he was ALWAYS on antibiotics. He did get strange rashes, but I don't have any evidence that they were related to him having CF, because he went misdiagnosed until he was 15 years old. It might not be a bad idea to have your son allergy tested as well.

I hope you find the answers you need to help your baby. Please keep us posted on what you find out.

I agree with the indications for full genetic testing. This to me seems like a classic reason to do so, and nothing less (i.e. don't just screen for the most common genes).

Our daughter had failure to thrive as an infant, and then also caught back up. Even after she caught back up, though, she was always hungry and always eating. By the age of three she was dramatically falling off the growth charts. She was diagnosed at age 3 yrs 3 months.

I don't know about the rash thing, either, sorry. Just wanted to encourage you to go ahead and get the full Ambry panel on your son. Good luck and I hope you get some answers!
