ktsmom-
your description of chili grease is of interest to me...you stated, "on the back of the diaper, towards the leg openings", do you mean it soaked through the diaper and you could see it on the outside? Or that it was on the side that her bottom actually touched? I've heard it described this way before, but I just can't seem to picture it in my head. It's not just the poop touching the diaper that spears a little on it, it actually gravitates out a ways?

Anyway, np2-
all babies are different, just as we adults are and what is normal for one may not be for the other. some babies may go once a day or several times a day. he is still little and his digestive system is still maturing. in fact, he may just be more efficient, if you think about it, if we eat 3x a day, we should probably all be going poop 3x a day! getting rid of the old stuff to make room for new food! i think this can actually be more normal for people with healthier diets too. if your baby is on solids now, his poop will definitely have more of an odor and sweet potatoes and carrots can definitely make it appear more orange. if all else is well, try not to worry too much and talk with your doc as soon as your ready.
in the meantime, if you feel like being proactive, make sure your feeding him good healthy fats, like avocado and such. you may also try a fenugreek supplement (found in health food stores), which could help if your milk supply has slowed down for some reason. remember, your breastmilk is the best thing for him and should be the main source of his caloric intake for his 1st year at least!

hugs!!

Hi again everyone,

I just noticed the above post and wanted to say that the stain on my son's diaper does not travel all the way through to the back of the diaper and his poop is not pale colored so i am feeling a lot more confident about him not having CF. Also I tasted his skin for salt and there is a very slight salt taste but nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm still worried about his lack of weight gain though...he eats and nurses all the time so i'm pretty confused...
Anyway thank you all again for your help!!! Also if he continues to gain poorly i will have them check him for CF.

Best wishes,
NP

I would get him checked right away. It's such a simple test (whether it's sweat test or blood draw for genetic test).

The reality is that the sooner you know either way, your mind will be put at ease.

If he doesn't have CF, then he doesn't have CF. Great news and you can never worry about it for another second in your life.

If he does have CF, then you will know that you were proactive and gave the kid the best chance at life that you can. Early treatment is the best way to prolong life with this disease. Then instead of wondering about the CF, you can put that energy into treating the kid.

Keep us posted on what you find out!

I was just going to post exactly what Amy said.  So I won't --
just "ditto"

Hi Everyone,

I called the doc and we have an appt for tommorow morning. She is going to weigh my son to see how he has gained since his last appt and ask about my cousin's medical histroy. For some reason making the appointment really scared me but hopefully i'm just worrying too much and he is fine.

Jody, I was wondering if it is not too much trouble, if it would be possible for you to let me know about the source of those sweden studies. I want to bring them in with me to tommorow's appointment.

Thanks very much.
