Hi everyone,

First let me say that i think you all did the right thing in encouraging me to discuss this with our doctor.

Our doctor ordered us a sweat test at a CF clinic at childern's hospital. I believe she did it just to ease my worried mind because i didn't even ask for the test!!! (I know some of you had to nag at your doctors for help which i am so sorry for!!!) My son did gain some weight (almost a pound, i think) so i am not really worried that he has CF anymore. He really is a happy, healthy kid who is full of energy. I feel so silly for ever worrying. Anyway apparently we need to call and make an appointment for the sweat test even though i feel sort of silly doing it now.

Thanks again for all your responses!! It really helped to hear all of your experiences and I'm really glad you pushed me into discussing it with my doctor. I feel so much more relieved now. I would have worried and stressed if you hadn't told me to talk with the doctor.
Thanks again,

Well we are all pulling for a 'not CF' diagnosis.

You should be so proud of yourself for being so tuned in to your child, especially with a family history and your unknown status as a carrier. You were brave to post your concerns here.

I agree that you should please let us know, and good luck!

Hi Again guys,

I'm sorry for posting again. The sweat test is scheduled for this friday at childerns. I know i sounded so confident in previous posts but I've been driving myself crazy. The other day my son tasted super salty on his feet and hands and i freaked out! i started tasting him all over. I noticed that his eyebrows tasted very salty (dried tears from crying??) and that where his hair grows on his forehead can be (but not always) pretty salty while his forehead is a little less salty. He is not consistantly salty though. Just sometimes. One time i tasted him while he was in the bath and he tasted fairly salty. later on I realized that the reason his hands and feet were salty was probably because he goes over to the fish tank where we have a brackish water fish and plays there. Anyway the salt from the brackish water crystalizes on the outside of the tank and sometimes falls on the floor so that explains why his hands and feet were so very very salty. I think that he also loves to eat salt. Not sure but he ate a ton of guocolmole which to me tasted quite salty. Ordinarily he hates avocados though. He also love the spicy nori which is salty too. And the spinich and beet greens which i put a ton of salt on after cooking them in butter and garlic. I'm beside myself with worry. My skin tastes salty sometimes too and i definately do not have cf. My DH thinks i am crazy. my mom thinks he is too healthy to have cf. my best friend thinks i am worrying too much. I even think i am crazy. I wish i could just put this out of my mind. Any advice would be so helpful.

Please don't drive yourself crazy with the salty tasing thing! I know its hard, I did the same thing while waiting for my son's sweat test and then the results. My son does taste salty, but not any saltier than his dad, who does not have CF. Sometimes his dad is saltier. I was going back and forth with myself about him being salty, then telling myself its just cause he's sweaty and needs a bath, then tasting my hand and his hand and comparing, etc. I was calling up all my family who saw him on a regular basis to ask if they had ever thought he tasted salty when they had kissed his forehead. Some people with Cf don't taste saltier than normal. Sometimes when someone without CF is sweaty they taste salty. You'll drive yourself crazy, not to mention the kid because you keep licking him!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I went back and forth from being totally confident he didn't have CF to terrified that he might. I'm sure all the parents on here felt like you do. Try to just hang in there a few more days! Of course I'm hoping you'll be updating with a NO CF! Keep us posted, and if your son does have CF we'll all be here for you.

I'm sorry that's not really any advice but I just wanted to let you know I know how you feel!

Aaahhh yes, the licking. I remember it well. Did it from a Thursday morning (positive sweat test, 'preliminary' result) to a Monday morning (the 'real' thing; positive again). Katy caught on pretty quick - "Mommy, are you kissing me...or LICKING me???" Lick her, lick myself for comparison. Rinse and repeat.

I have no real advice, but for these next few days find something to distract yourself, like a good book that you just can't put down! I also recommend NOT surfing the internet for CF stuff (I drove myself absolutely nuts with this). There is no sense in it right now, and it can't answer the question that you really want to know.

Hang in there! Crossing fingers!
